I’d always maintain the 12 pubs of Barrack Street at Christmas time is the Ultimate Test of a Drinker. A bit like the Epsom Derby, you need speed, stamina, balance and be mentally very tough.

Last I saw Ellises was called the beggarman. Its a pub on gillabbey St just down from the rock

On the contrary, I know the area very well, I have lots of friends still living there, I was in Grange last Sunday. I’ve never denied that there’s plenty of upper middle class areas in the Rochestown area and the countryside around Douglas, but the areas that I specifically mentioned, the main areas within easy walking distance of the club are what I would refer to as working class, salt of the earth type places, I’m actually being lectured to here by people who wouldn’t find it on a map , desperate to prove that Limerick lads know more about Cork than the locals
Jesus the Pinecroft was sone spot back on the day, closest thing o ever saw to the pub in Shameless

Thanks for reminding me. I must try it this weekend… Ive never tried it. I’ll have to get it delivered tho, i couldn’t risk having to interact with the working class bums around there.

Who said it be was a shithole? Is that what you think of when you read working class? I know V it’s not but you’ve gone over the edge here, Grange and specifically Pinecroft and the surrounding area is 100% no more than working class by anybody’s reckoning, I’m just speaking the truth, don’t take it personally, o know the area very well and a takeaway doesn’t make an area middle class, that’s just silly, Camille isn’t even expensive

you brought up Shameless, Shameless depicted a shithole. You also said very working class. And haven’t followed that one up at all. What’s the difference between very working class and working class?
How long is the pinecroft gone? there may be working class families in Douglas but Douglas isn’t by any classification you choose a working class area. How many council houses would be in those areas would you reckon? Would there be a load on buy to rent?
It might have been more working class 20 years ago, like Caherdavin was in Limerick City, Caherdavin couldn’t really be classed as working class anymore, even though there is poverty only over the Ennis road from Na Piarsaigh

I can’t answer your specific questions , there’s nowhere on earth I would have that type of information to hand on.
If you consider Grange and the Pinecroft area middle class we have very different definitions, why don’t we leave it at that, maybe take a spin up there sone day. And don’t worry too much about language, I think my meaning was clear

I was being sarcastic, Douglas is the furthest thing in my mind from a shithole

The 12 pubs of Barrack Street is a very well known term. An iconic pilgrimage every Christmas for all UCC Students and Alumni.
Annie Mac’s, Cissy Youngs, Moks, Sportsmans, Southside, The Gallows. Tom Barry’s, Tom Lynch’s, Barbarella, Flying Enterprise… One or two whose names escape me.
