A post from 2023 and you just clamped yourself :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

He is absolutely septic and proved it today, weak mentally with the likes of O’Mahony and Fitzgibbon who go missing when the work has to be done. It would have been a fucking hiding like 2021 but for the Downeys and shocking decision making by Clare.

A good athlete with zero hurling.

I actually watched the 2013 replay this morning as a warm-up and, with the greatest of respect to those players, they were definitely over-achieving in even bringing that final to a replay (and being so close to winning it).

Very very few of those players would be anywhere near the current team, there were some very average players playing. The obvious exceptions would be Harnedy & Horgan, along with Nash maybe.

So while I can certainly empathise that this defeat possibly hurts more because you are better now and maybe this was one left behind; going forward, Cork are in a way better position. That 2013 team were never going to get another chance like 2013 to actually win one whereas you don’t really get that feeling about this team.

If they could add another 1 or 2 players and use this defeat positively, they are unlikely to be too far away again next year. There will be additional challenges as opposition potentially have a winter to prepare for a team who will now be one of the outright AI favourites but that comes with the territory.

I’d let my opinions of Pat Horgan known for a long time. I’d feel a bit sorry for him tbh but imo he’s like a Cillian o connor or maybe Ryan Giggs.

He’s consistently very very good for a very long time but that doesn’t make you an all time great in my book.

He has an awful habit of coming out the wrong side of these games as well and in sport the winners write the history.

This loss could affect ticket sales for the homecoming you’d feel

It is a hard road when looking up the hill but it will make men of them.

At the risk of kicking a hornets nest this morning, I thought that extra time was the ideal time to spring Lehane. Against tired legs it was made for an experienced head. Surprised he wasn’t sprung.

On a positive note the Downeys are made of the right stuff. Ye just need to find a Johnny Crowley type in the backs to level a few of the opposition who think its ok to waltz though without getting touched.

It is bitterly disappointing and although for large parts of the game Cork were 2nd best, the game was there to be won several times and luck was just not with us yesterday, whether is was refereeing decisions or otherwise.

I walked away from Walsh Park at the start of the summer thinking it’d be a short summer and back to square 1 again of sorts, so to see what has happened since has been a gift. The atmosphere and thrill in those wins against Limerick will never be replicated. All it is is a consolation prize, but it is something. It’s a sore one, worse than 2013 for me, although that might be the freshness of it. But you’d hope from a Cork point of view it is the piss and vinegar that pushes them on more.

My own two cents, I feel Clare were not given sufficient respect at times over the last two weeks. They have been the one team who have given their all against this Limerick team over a three year period and lost tight games. It has toughened them. You have to lose tight matches where there is a trophy on the line to know what you have to do to get over the line. It will make it all the sweeter when ye do. This was Clare’s last shot with this group for me, they made hay and the fact ye had taken out their bogey team made it all the better for them. Lastly they outworked Cork, Mark Coleman left Fitzgerald have the freedom of Croke Park and the midfield while they got a few scores did not work hard enough.
