Only 9 city players shows what’s wrong with Cork hurling , crazy that city clubs aren’t producing better quality players with all the investment , only my personal opinion, on the other hand at least in the county it seems to be thriving- at one point Midleton were the only county club consistently producing,
Tbh I’m biased and expected more city players- it’s worrying, know personally that Bishopstown are struggling to get kids and simply can’t as in Scoil an Spiorad Naiomh ( traditionally a feeder club for the town last year over 60 pc of children were born of non Irish parents and obviously most have no interest in GAA )
PS ex Cork football manager is head master-Brian Cuthbert and if he can’t get numbers no one can, hopefully in time that’ll change,
whereas here in Carrigaline numbers are booming children of Irish and non Irish .
It’s a conundrum

11 city players there seems a fair enough representation, you might as well throw in Sars and Blarney as well

Don’t worry about the ‘non Irish’, kids want to play the games that their buddies are playing, if they’re part of the community they’ll become part of the GAA clubs, but it takes a bit of time.

1/3 from the city on the panel seems grand, and at least half of them will start.

Bigger issue is the likes of Blackrock and Na Piarsaigh struggling to put out underage teams in A grade anymore.

There’s the worry.

Hard to believe.
They’d have three teams at each age group, not 10-15 years ago.

Basing it on the competition information on the Rebel Og site, but St. Michaels seem to be the ones playing at the highest grades, not Blackrock.

Would Blackrock & Na P have an ageing demographic in their quarry ??

Carrigaline & Ballincollig are huge young areas that need to start producing hurlers

v hard for any club to be strong at hurling when everything is split dual 50:50. Michaels are a totally separate club these days. Having the strongest schoolboys soccer club in Ireland on your doorstep doesn’t help either.

Ballincollig are coming massively in hurling. Think they had three Cork minors starting last year, and two or three again this year.

They’re competing for Premier underage honours in Cork. Carrigaline would want to up it alright

Isn’t Johnny Dywer working part time for the club as a hurling director? Themselves Sars, Barrs and Midleton are the top underage hurling clubs in the county atm.

lets be honest, the city clubs took a lot of Cork county players from the outside the city clubs in times past, I would say pretty decent representation from the city

They had over 100 under 8s 2 years ago. The club is doing s massive expansion of facilities too. Cork GAA should really look at splitting them in 2 before it’s too late

No more than any other successful sides from out the county over time. Newtown were picking lads from Charleville, Buttevant, Limerick, Tipp but there was nothing made of it. There was a culture of lads jumping ship to sucessfull clubs but is now largely gone.

That’s football though, st Michael’s are decent considering they’re the poor relation in Blackrock GAA terms, they’re shagged ref minor as 8/10 are on my kids under 18 Avondale united team and soccer comes first with most of the players

Didn’t know that as in Cork i never heard of that shite happening tbh in the 70s/80s

Do we know who we are playing in the next round of the hurling or what.
