Cork GAA Thread 2015

That’s a serious clamping there.
callaghan`s ability is totally overrated.
he is a skilful player with a bit of speed but at intercounty minor level when he came up against backs who were not intimidated by those two things he struggled.
he opted out of under 21 and senior which points to a lad who isnt interested in hard work and just wants to play the game as a game. Thats fair enough but claims by lads that he is better than cork senior forwards are total rubbish.
Disagree, hes starring with an average enough Ballyhea team. If he was with a top quality side he could be even better.

Problem with that is there are no real quality sides in Cork right now.

The big dual clubs are being pulled apart and everyone’s taking from one another.
SARS are a nice team but lack real brute force. Midleton could break out but certainly have an inconsistency to them.
The Glen are the only hard nosed team around but lack the hurlers and athleticism.

Newtown played right well last Sunday. In Tim O’Mahoney and Conor Twomey they have 2 young players with huge potential. Douglas have a decent team. If they get knocked out of the football it will help their cause. I can’ see the Glen doing anything this year. I would fancy Ballymartle to beat them the weekend.

i cant vouch for the waterford game but in 2012 against clare he was cleaned out by both players that marked him. both of those players are currently on the clare under 21 squad and are both good players. in sharp contrast the two players he marked in 2013 failed to even make the training panel for the clare under 21s this year.
lies damn lies and statistics.
i will go back to my point. the lad has been talked up constantly since he was 16 yet he has done nothing beyond hit a few scores for two average sides ie the cork minors and ballyhea yet people are claiming that he is better than cork seniors.
He isnt and he is never going to be because he chose a different route to take.
good luck to him. he is well entitled to treat hurling as a pastime, it sure beats taking the risk of giving everything you have and maybe not being good enough.
It is totally ridiculous though for lads to be saying that blackrock were utterly useless on the one hand and on the other claiming that a 19 year old should be on the cork senior team on the back of playing against them.

quick players with a good first touch are always going to look good in club hurling. At county, thats all there is other than very strong lads so you need more inside you which he doesnt seem to have

both are good players. O mahony seems to have a lot going for him, good in the air strong and athletic and a decent hurler. He dished out a nasty enough clip in the clare cork minor match in Ballyhea which would suggest that he has a bit of timber in him. Something that is no harm for a young lad taking the step up to where your desire to compete will be tested.

Oh ya the Glen are struggling. I suppose I was more on about their toughness and resolve to do whatever it takes. Agree Ballymartyle should win. Actually Ballymartyle are similar to the Glen in that department but again lack hurlers.
Douglas won’t do diddly squat. Too much hassle with football and too any dual players. They overrate themselves as well which is a big issue. Also I heard Cadogan isn’t hurling this year. Having to deal with other clubs for your footballers and shot like that on top of a strained dual issue within the club is ridiculous.

Know little about Newtown these days, but that’s a good result for them alright. They have as good a chance as anyone.
It’s a year like the football last year though, a Bishopstown could do a Ballincollig.

newtown are far and away the most impressive club in cork. they produced an outstanding group of players that delivered at the very highest level and since then have set very high standards to back that up.
they have lads on cork panels all the time. i notice that they have about 10 players on the rebel og squads.

when their small kids play in blitzs it seems to me that senior players from the club are involved with them
thats a huge testament to the culture of the palce

Full order restored by Frank and the lads.
From an extremely reliable source, these things have happened in the past few weeks

 • 2 dinners taken back off players and given to CB men, as meals were under ordered.
 • CB refused to buy new sliothars.

you of all people should realise how wrong that comment is

No reason for you to be liking this comment Locke, you actually live in Castlemartyr not Kildorrey.

Are you really judging him off one performance when he was 17 on what was possibly the worst Minor team Cork have ever put out? And he still scored 1-1 from play that night.

Anyway he is being over-hyped but there is little doubt he has more potential then a lot of the lads on the current senior panel.

I am just saying that lads claiming that he is better than players who have delivered for cork considering the soft road he has chosen is ridiculous.

The only funny thing is the truth of it.
Bizarre carry on.

Soft road? You don’t know what might be going on in the lad’s life. Commiting 4 or 5 times a week to what is an average Cork team is not for everyone. I agree with you that Blackrock were pathetic and O’Callaghan’s performance might have been overrated but against Newcestown in last year’s county final he won the game on hes own. The lad has lots of talent to be fair.

Nobody on here said anything, I mentioned a friend of mine said he was the best. I was slightly wrong, he said he’s the most talented.
That’s not that outrageous a comment although personally I would say Lehane has frightening potential.
