We only converse via PMs on Clarehurlers. It is safer that way

So far the management have shown no interest in the player but it could happen. It will be a set back for honan if he doesn’t make it. fairly similar trajectory to eddie brennan in some ways in that brennan was tall and quick but people questioned his ability to win his own ball and his desire[/QUOTE]
Trying to compare Eddie Brennan to…Honan :D:confused:

It’s bad enough I have to be keeping you up to date with players in your own county without this embarrassing fishing you are doing about clare players

The funny thing is that I tend to recall the highs and lows of a players career so I can remember back to the dim and distant past when eddie brennan was struggling to get on the kilkenny team in his early 20’s and people doubted he woukd make it.
How far back does your memory stretch?

I think its fair to say Clare’s U-21 would hammer Cork by this stage. No stopping Clare hurling.

NOBODY CAN PUT A HALT TO THE CLARE DRIVE FOR FIVE

(except maybe a Garda with a breathalyzer)

Davy could well be the word of everyones lips after the game on Sunday, but it might not necessarily be Davy Fitz.

He has form for doing such things. Podge started against Waterford in 2012 despite not figuring during the league.

There’s an incredibly gifted player emerging in Wexford. Talk to your hurling men in the county and revert back please.

Eh just a guess but one would presume that getting a starting place on any KK side takes time but once he nailed it down he became the deadliest forward along with Henry KK had during the dominance they achieved.Comparing him to Honan is an insult.

I watched that game with a club mate of his who couldn’t believe Podge had been plucked out of nowhere to start. O’Donnell last year too was a brave call based on form. Davy’s surprise selections in Waterford all went horribly wrong but his judgement on players in Clare has been superb and his selections vindicated each time.

How is Davy likely to approach Sunday. He has been very quiet in the media so far - I expect the first interview/soundbite to air tomorrow with a thinly veiled agenda before we arrive at the altar on Sunday and the veil is removed with little surprise given it was a thin veil and not a burka

was honan not earmarked as a star from his minor days?..Brennan didn’t even play minor for kilkenny and only made his debut for kilkenny seniors in his early 20’s …

Is it too much to hope for that the Cork management might have learned the lessons of last year and won’t allow their fullback line be isolated in front of goal?

Was Eddie Brennan tall?

And Honan would be about 24/25 now. Not a young player

Not really as simple as that is it, if our half-backs just keep their line on the 40 then good, fast half-forwards will drop deep and cause havoc. Really you can’t rely on Cahalane and O’Neill to win their one on one battles.

I think it is about not allowing quality ball come in from further out the field. Cork half forward line played well against Waterford and Cork forwards chased back. They need to do similar so ball coming into forwards is played under pressure. Teams are starting to mark zones on puckouts (Laois did it against Dublin in football too) rather than players - full forward line drops back to cover full back line and half back line and then the half forwards drop back to midfield.

Davy will have a plan to break Cork down and go for the jugular early on which may involve withdrawing forwards.

No Murphy to man mark is a loss to Cork. Interested to see if Clare go to man mark Horgan.

Eddie did play minor for Kilkenny, they weren’t an especially good team, got to the AI semi if I remember correctly, Henry could have been on it too.
Eddie was also corner forward on the U-21 team that won the AI out of the blue in 99, so to intimate that he had no underage pedigree is pushing it a bit.
Having said that, no-one foresaw what the would eventually become, along with DJ and Canning, the deadliest goalscorer of the last 25 years.
