Bandwagon is bigger on both sides this time around.
Iâd say thereâs easily another 5/6k from Cork that would go to the Pairc but not Thurles (or Limerick last year).
I was in Cork Sunday and there was a huge crowd about decked out in their Cork gear, but they obviously hadnât travelled to Thurles for the game.
Itâs completely over the top what is being said about the place. Itâs far from ideal parking wise, but itâs no less safe than it was for 30 years and nothing happened.
Itâs got better noise and atmosphere than anywhere else outside croker when itâs full. Waterford-Tipp in 2002 was the loudest game I was ever at.
It obviously needs an upgrade, but a lot of whatâs been said is horseshit, including the capacity, which is 40k.

My understanding is that they are not allowed hold 40k anymore.

You always get that. The hurlers attract across the board support, and there would be a lot of casual supporters who just head into town for the game. Youâll get a few, but Iâd suggest the crowd of those types will be even bigger in town.
Of course there will be bigger demand though, you are right. However Limerick knew what the capacity of the Pairc was entering the agreement.
@glasagusban - you are very naive to not think this isnât political games going on. If there was a real issue there would be a problem for the football as well and we would have heard about it by now. But Kerry wouldnât bother their hole complaining about such a thing. Mostly cos there is a very good relationship there an two they think they are going to get hammered.
Not according to the Cork CB. Apparently they are referencing something from back along. Nothing has changed since the last game played there. Why would it change?
There was 28k in Semple Stadium on Sunday - not sure where you squeeze in another 22k - terraces in Semple Stadium must be on the edge of comfort/safety

The capacity is not 40k, safety officers will not allow that. There is nothing âpoliticalâ, what do you even mean by that? Objectively, the stadium is unsuitable. Itâs that simple. Itâs a no brainer that the game should be in Thurles, if itâs not itâs because Cork whinge and bitch, a lot.
Their will be absolutely no parking anywhere in or near Blackrock, unless you turn up 2 hours before throw in. And then itâll be an absolute nightmare to get off.
Typically Iâd park well away in the city center and walk in, but a 30 minute walk in and out isnât much of an option if you have a family

Yes it has. The capacity. The home and away agreement is place for a long time, and the capacity of PUC has been downgraded at least once in that time (from 50k to 43k). There is doubt about whether the findings of the 2011 report were ever acted upon but Iâm sure the fire officer will clarify the capacity in the coming days. Other stadiums have improved in that time, while Pairc Ui Chaoimh has regressed.
I remember being on the terrace there in the early 00âs, possibly 2002, and there was a serious crush to the front of the terrace, I think for a finish they had to open the gates to let people out.
None of that is silly. If this was a Munster final between Cork and Clare due to be played in Ennis you would be jumping up and down that the game should be moved. Youâre not even responding to direct questions and handing out dumb ratings left right and centre, which is a sure sign youâre wrong.
If the game is moved to Thurles it will be at the behest of the Munster Council and Limerick will continue to owe Cork one game.
Moroneyâs comments in The Examiner have pretty much confirmed what I said yesterday. The game will be in Thurles.
Waiting for the minor semi-finals makes fuck all difference as either Limerick or Cork are going to be doubly involved on the day.
The latest audit of county grounds reduced the capacity of PUC to 34K. Whilst nothing has been done to the stadium, the method employed in the audit of assessing crowd congestion on terraces (Heads, Shoulders, Hips method for anyone that cares) has determined that the capacity be reduced. Reductions have also taken place in the other provincial venues. For example, Thurles is listed as having a capacity of 53,500. The actual operational capacity since the audit is 49,500. The Gaelic Grounds now sits at 46,000.

I was talking about the last Munster championship game played there, not a Cork-Limerick game.
There has been crushes in games I was at in every Munster ground over the years.
It hasnât been upgraded cos they always knew they wanted to knock it.
