LIMERICK GAA chiefs are warning of a major ticket shortage for next monthās Munster SHC final.
Yesterday Cork defeated Clare to ensure a provincial final rematch between Limerick and Cork.
Last July almost 43,000 supporters packed into Limerickās Gaelic Grounds to see the Shannonsiders defeat The Rebels to win a first Munster SHC since 1996.
But now the July 13 (4.00) rematch looks set to take place in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.
Limerick officials are claiming that capacity in Pairc Ui Chaoimh will be just 34,000 - leaving almost 10,000 disappointed fans.
Ahead of next yearās development work in the Leeside venue, Health and Safety requirements have seen capacity reduced in recent years.
While some in Cork claim the attendance could be closer to 40,000, Limerick GAA chairman Oliver Mann has said he understands the capacity could be just 34,000.
āIf the final does end up being played in Cork I can guarantee you the demand will far outweigh supply,ā said Limerick GAA chairman Oliver Mann.
āMy understanding is that the capacity in Cork at the moment is somewhere around 34,000,ā outlined Mann.
Last Summer 42,730 attended the Munster SHC final between the counties in the Gaelic Grounds. Two weeks ago 24,962 attended the Munster semi-final between Limerick and Tipperary, while yesterday over 28,000 watched Cork defeat Clare in Thurles.
āWe have a home and away arrangement with Cork and we owe Cork a game since last year and I am quite sure that Cork will be maintaining that the match is played in Cork,ā said Mann.
It is understood that Limerick would welcome Cork back to the Gaelic Grounds and then āoweā Cork a game when Pairc Ui Chaoimh is fully redeveloped.
The Munster Council could also step-in and perhaps decide on Thurles as a venue as they would lose out financially with the reduced capacity.
In the next 48-hours the venue will be 100% confirmed by the Munster Council.
Regardless of the final venue there will be public sale of tickets through Centra, SuperValu and also online.
āThere is a percentage that the GAA are committed to give to Centra and SuperValu for sale in their outlets as part of the overall sponsorship deal between the GAA and SuperValu,ā explained the chairman
Will Cork get within 9 points of Limerick this time?
Limerick have a better more experienced team than last year. I predict a 12 point win for Limerick. A one third improvement from last year.
Hopefully the match will not be played in Cork. Itās an awful place.
The atmosphere in Pairc Ui Chaoimh is actually fantastic when full and the sun is shining. Better than Thurles Iād say.
The 1983 Dublin-Cork replay remains its greatest day.

One of them anyway. I have some great and some awful memories of following Waterford down there, but if I was pushed I would have to say that for atmosphere and drama the best game Iāve seen in Cork was the 1976 Munster Football final replay, which was the day Brian Murphy stepped back over the line with Seanie Walshās shot.
PUC is grand if you go into the terrace. It is an absolute cunt of a place other than that. Iām only a handy sized fella, and I have trouble with the seats in the stand. The walk down to the field is a nightmare if it is any way wet at all. Hard enough get a sneaky early pint in Cork tooā¦ you could be having a pint before first mass below in thurles
@Julio Geordio, agree with most of that, except Downes and Dowling both inside I think itās becoming clear we need Downes in the half forward line. Iād prefer to have him at centre forward and play Dodge midfield. Who gets dropped at half back if Hickey goes 6? Iād make a few tweaks but I expect Tobin for Allis/Breen/Ryan will be the only change.

The worst part of it is the walk up to the ground - but I was at Cork v Tipp in 08, sat in the open stand on a lovely sunny afternoon and it was a grand day out. Limerick v Waterford in 01 was hell tho- Over packed and a crush behind the goals which resulted in the gates being opened and fans having to sit behind the goals. Getting to Cork will be a joke as well if one is planning on having a few beers, the traffic through Charleville, Buttevant and Mallow will be a cunt if busing it and the train will take 2 hrs+ as it will stop everywhere. Iāll have to head down the night before stinking of olives and cheeseā¦
gavin. I honestly canāt remember the last time he had a good game. Was it in 09 against Dublin?
The seats were grand until they put the plastic buckets in a few years ago. That was the icing on the cake. Other major flaws. If you got a seat low down near the pitch there was every chance youād have your view severely restricted by fence posts. The toilets were another fiasco. The bar under the covered stand is like something out of Trainspotting. The players having to run through the crowd in the tunnel to get to the pitch. The distance from the town. The cover on the stand being on the wrong side of the pitch.
But for all that I have very fond memories of the place.
We could do with two Downes really. I agree we need a ball winner but the ball in was so bad the last day that you need a big man inside too.
Iād keep Wayne on one of the wings and would drop either of the other two, donāt believe either have been going great. Gav in particular has been underperforming for a while now. Maybe Gav should be at half forward where he lines out for Killmallock?
Maybe they should build a motorway between Cork and Limerick?
The reason Pairc Ui Chaoimh became instantly famous in 1976 was because Frank Murphy pulled a stroke and brought Galway and Wexford there in 1976.
The Cork Athletic Grounds bore no relation to PuC. It was so unfit for purpose that Cork hadnāt hosted a Munster final since the 40s.
It was the gg in Limerick that was the premier hurling venue in the province for many decades throughout the 20th century. Built for purpose. Semple (not just Pairc ui Chaoimh) was also a tip only to be updated in 79 with the new stand. No Kilinan terrace til 83.
The gg was thee venue and it still holds the record for a capacity crowd of 67,000 people for the 1963 Munster final of Tipp/Cork. It was known as the home of the Munster finals.
Semple only came into its own after the completion of both terraces at the end of 83 in preparation for the centenary year in 84. Semple has since been seen as thee premier venue since the early 80ās. Easy access and the convenience to the towns pubs also have a lot to do with this.
Genius! Itās amazing no one has pointed this out before
You can go in the back way through Blackrock, theres a pub on top of the hill called the venue that isnāt too far away 10 mins walk max. Cork is in general a disaster though.
He was superb that day in fairness was it four long range frees he landed?

No offence pal. I donāt disagree with the sentiment but Tipp didnāt play Cork in the 1963 Munster Final.
Trying to take one of the few ye have from you @Fagan ODowdā¦
He wonāt get away with it.
Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again. Itās hard to beat a summers day in Killarney for a match. The terrace around the stadium generates a great buzz and Killarney is a great spot for a few pints. It would suit most people perfectly and can hold over 40k as well.
Highly unlikely however. @Fagan ODowd has Killarney ever held a Munster Hurling Championship match of consequence?
