Cork v Limerick Munster SHC Final 2014
Pairc Ui Chaoimh is some dump. The long walk out, the traffic, the stand seats designed assuming every adult is the size of Danny DeVito. It’s dangerous in the stands, teams running out of the tunnel and surrounded by supporters. It’s always fucking cold in that covered stand too, even if it is thirty degrees weather - it’s like the Mackey Stand that way.

In saying that the view from the terrace there is magnificent. Was up there in 2001 when Big Brian Begley ran amok against Waterford. Think we were 10 or 11 points down early on that day but came back to win by three. Was in the stand in the same ground against Cork the match before and could barely get up to celebrate when Barry Foley mugged them off with the sideline ball winner. A lovely ground when there is a small/reasonable crowd but hate the place when it’s packed.

In saying that we owe Cork a game so I’ve no problem entering the lions den to face them in their own backyard. Absolutely no pressure on Limerick, I’m looking forward to it. Written off again but that suits us.
No excuses so…

Cork are an excellent side, 10 seconds away from winning the AI last year. We’ll have our work cut out. Their forward line is exceptional, midfield ruled the roost yesterday while their defence has improved with every game this year. Far better yesterday than the first day out against Waterford. Bookies have them raging hot favourites and deservedly so.

We’re underdogs but I give us a fighting chance. We were level at half time last year having played against a stiff breeze. People say the sending off cost Cork the game - and maybe it did, who knows - but we were well in that game having not really played all that well in the first half.

Our defence is pretty settled, Browne and Jim Bob are a pretty decent pairing and we can break even in the middle while Hannon, Downes, Mulcahy and co will be a threat. Not saying we’ll win but would be confident we’ll give a good account of ourselves.

Venue shouldn’t matter a fuck DK.

Looking at Cork yesterday, you could argue that Copper was poor enough at 11 so I would see LK giving that Cork half forward line plenty of bother. Midfield, well put simply if LK bring the effort of the Tipp game then they can hold their own there too.
I would be concerned as to how the LK full back line would handle Cork though. I would give ye a massive chance provided ye can get goals.

Cork at home is tough though, playing at home is worth 4 points so LK will need to up the performance from the Tipp match, whether they can is debatable.

I actually think the best we’ve played in the last few years was the 15/20 minutes after half time against Tipp in Thurles in 2012. We attacked in droves, piled forward and threw over points from everywhere before legs gave in.

Will be interesting to see how we prepare for the Cork full forward line. Could be fatal last words but would be hopeful that Hickey/Condon would do ok on Horgan/Cadogan.

Noted GAA fan Len Dineen said on local radio this morning that home advantage is worth 5 points to Cork.

He probably phrased it that home advantage was worth an uncoverted try to Cork.

Stupid question alert: did Horgan play deeper again or did Cork play a traditional three man full forward for most of the game yesterday? He was largely anonymous from play which is why I guess I didn’t notice/pay much attention to where he was positioned.

LK won at Semple Stadium KC, Cork away is tough but if they improve on the Tipp performance (tough ask IMO ) then they can rattle Cork.

Simple really.

It’s okay Carry it happens the best of us.

Who did you notice?

Ah no one really, sure I wouldn’t have a clue, I actually didn’t even know that a venue could be both irrelevant to the outcome of a game and worth 4 points at the same time.

He started at full and went corner after a while. Dillon locked him up from play bar one wide I think.

Kinda what I thought, he was well held anyway so was surprised he wasn’t brought out a bit.

1976 is before most on here were born. Henry Shefflin is hurling folklore, and he started some time after then. It is a phrase, which is used perfectly reasonably. You just have a hard on for me for some reason, which I find strange given my offer to help you whatever way I could if you needed it, but yourself and MBB can fuck off. I am tired of your constant sniping and moaning about everything with rarely a good word to say.

He said “shouldn’t”, not “won’t”?

You know what pal, you’re alright in my book so you are.

Houlihan’s in Kilmallock on the Sunday morning for a couple after early mass before making the trip down. Beware the speed vans in Buttevant, the fuckers are always there catching people out in the 50km zone.

May have one or two in Larry Tompkins before the throw-in, depending on time constraints/if we are in the minor final.
