Do they just not bother counting deaths some days? We had 0 yesterday and now 30 today and this has happened a lot in the last while

Every week the Sunday and Monday figures are either zero or very low then we’re back to normal from Tuesday to Saturday. I’m not sure why this is and not sure why RTE made a big deal out a zero death announcement a few Mondays back.

The HPSC said the report published today contains 141 late outbreak reports from October, December and January.

The biggest rise was in private house/family outbreaks, with 259 were reported, compared with 128 the previous week.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said this week that the rise in private house/family outbreaks was down to better tracking and tracing by public health teams now that daily case numbers are reducing, rather than a sudden spike.

Outbreaks in hospitals and workplaces also reduced significantly.

The good thing about schools being back now is that nphet and the government will be keen to play down high case numbers as they have tied themselves so closely to this decision.
