There are five (5) passengers on the Dubai flight today
Kind of surprised at the middle ground view in this article by the journal on MHC. Coveney realises its a Cod (always admired him despite being a blueshirt) but egghead won the battle to get more countryâs added to the interment list. The attorney General has concerns over how nphet want legislation introduced.
The house of cards is starting to crumble.
This is completely a FF stunt. The article is pretty fair in outlining how Donnelly bounced all the rest into it. Fair enough but him, FF and Martin need now to own every consequence, operational fuck-up, legal challenge and financial impact resulting and that needs to be repeatedly hammered home. They can claim any benefit too but Iâm not sure itâs going to be the public health or political success they imagine.
Our health officials have been pushing for this for a long time. Responsibility needs to be placed on them too.
I still donât get how they think they can specify countries based on incidence when the legislation clearly says that criteria is variants of concern. I think theyâve overreached the legislation and itâs ultra views, that seems the best grounds for a challenge.
Agreed but ultimately at a political level this was clearly driven by Donnelly - probably presenting it as âif you oppose this you oppose public health adviceâ
Fine - but itâs on him and his department to deliver it operationally now and all the consequences. One things for sure those âhealth officialsâ will be no where to be seen when the shit inevitably hits the fan
I see Glynner says the economic catastrophe is nothing to do with nphet.
The thing about mandatory quarantine is you either go at it fully committed or donât bother at all.
The govt really needed to decide which it is.
Mehole throwing the toys out of the pram because he didnât get to go on the trip to Washington for paddies day.
You trying to doxx yourself?
I donât think so few people are flying that that should identify me. My point was that travel has been possible when necessary throughout the last year and I can see no reason why people shouldnât be able to travel freely this summer.
I dont think any other EU country is doing this. Seems like a mad solo run by health officials here, perhaps pandering to the zero covid head bangers.
The use of variants as a means to justify this is laughable. Variants occur in viruses all of the time. If the standard set for MHQ is that a new variant could emerge, then MHQ is here to stay until the end of time.
Iâd also love to know the logic used for deciding Israel belonged on the list? It has an incredible vaccine rate and very low case numbers. Iâm concerned what illogical nonsense like this is doing to our international reputation. Hotel capacity will quickly be reached if they add all of the countries they are threatening to add, meaning a situation could unfold where a waiting list could develop for entry into Ireland. Next to a quickly reopening United Kingdom, that would make us incredibly unattractive as a business destination, let alone a tourist one.
I donât see how the hotels arenât full in a week or two.
It almost seemed deliberate to me that it is a shitshow.
I wonder do the people driving this see that as desirable? A full stop put to arrivals due to capacity, like Australia.
The âaverage man on the streetâ is broadly in favour of this from what i can see. âabout fuckin timeâ etc. It fits in perfectly with the notion that people are in favour of more restrictions once they donât impact them. people might start to get pissed off when it starts affecting their family coming home
Is there much leeway in the legislation for genuine cases where someone who lives here has to go home for a parentâs funeral in Germany or somewhere on list? Or are they treated the same as someone who goes somewhere to get their gnashers straightened ?
It seems like we are going for zero covid by stealth. Next logical step for these numpties will be border checks at 300 crossings into northern Ireland. You see it is never enough to appease the mob and that will become the cause cÊlèbre when someone living abroad circumvented these ridiculous new rules to come home via Belfast to comfort a relative on their death bed. There is no logical explanation for MHQ especially when backdoor is left wide open. Pure populism and pandering to the media and opposition. I truly hope its not the end for aviation in this country but I hope the end comes soon for Donnelly and Fianna Fail.
Funerals are not considered essential according to the guidance we have received
I think that will quickly stop countries getting added, hence the Department of Foreign Affairs getting more people on the still unnamed âExpert travel advisory groupâ aka NPHET.
Israel was added due to its concerning variant. Was it removed because the variant became less concerning?
Thatâs disgraceful
