Passengers arriving into Cork and Shannon must travel to Dublin for quarantine

Passengers arriving at Cork and Shannon airports are currently being transported to Dublin for their mandatory hotel quarantine due to a lack of capacity in the Munster region.

People arriving into Cork Port, Cork Airport, and Shannon Airport are being met by Defence Forces personnel upon arrival and then chaperoned to their quarantine facilities in the capital.

The Department of Health has confirmed that passengers entering via the south of the country are currently being accommodated at either the Crowne Plaza or the Holiday Inn Express at Dublin Airport.

ā€œFacilities in Cork or other regional locations have not been stepped up for the purposes of mandatory hotel quarantine at this point,ā€ a spokesperson said.

Demand for hotel quarantine facilities is expected to rise sharply in the coming weeks as last night the Government added 16 extra countries to the hotel quarantine list. Among the additional countries are France, Italy, Turkey, Canada and the US.

The Defence Forces acknowledged it has been designated as the State Liaison Official in support of the new quarantine system, which went live on March 26.

A spokesperson said that passengers arriving into the southern ports of entry are transported to their quarantine facilities by bus, though it is understood that the vehicles in use are not official Defence Forces equipment.

ā€œUpon arrival into Ireland, regardless of whether you arrive by sea or by air, after immigration and customs processing you will be met by members of the Defence Forces who will ensure you are safely and securely transported from your port of entry to the location in which you will complete your pre-booked mandatory hotel quarantine.ā€

ā€œThe vast majority of incoming passengers arrive through Dublin Airport, with a small number coming from Shannon, Cork and seaports,ā€ they added.

Itā€™s unclear exactly how many passengers have been transported to Dublin from Cork since the mandatory hotel quarantine system became operational on March 26. The Department of Health declined to confirm what that number might be.

The State contract for mandatory quarantine was awarded to Tifco Hotel Group. In addition to the Crowne Plaza and the Holiday Inn Express, the other two hotels currently in use are the Clontarf Castle Hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel in Dublin city centre.

There are currently 654 hotel rooms available for mandatory quarantining, but it is expected that capacity will at least double as more countries are added.

Department of Health officials have been in regular contact with hotel provider Tifco this week.

The standard rate for mandatory quarantine, for one adult in one room, is ā‚¬1,875 for 12 nights service. Non-adherence to quarantine is punishable by a ā‚¬2,000 fine or a prison sentence of one month.

A lack of capacity and every hotel in munster empty. They are so dangerous weā€™ll lash em on a bus together

Ah lads. What the genuine fuck.

Look, I agree that itā€™s frustrating but for some people here the narrative is that this will never end, comparisons to North Korea FFS, Nazi Germany brought up regularly with a straight face,

Itā€™s nearly over, it was shit but itā€™s coming to an end, try to look on the bright side (am I allowed to?)

Mate of mine is moving home from Canada with his family in May. Lease broken on the apartment, notice given to work. Theyā€™d a house rented so they could isolate for the two weeks and now theyā€™ve to pay 4k or something. Fucking madness

Not relevant to my point, that is a shitty situation for your friend, things might change in his favour, maybe with the knowledge he has he might be able to do something to make it more bearable.
Itā€™s not gonna last forever

Can he not book undependent flights to Heathrow and then back to Dublin from there?

I agree with you itā€™s nearly over. But the rest of what youā€™re saying isnā€™t helpful. This current system is ridiculous. Itā€™s not acceptable just because thereā€™s only a month or two left of people being being fucked over and Ireland being an international laughing stock and a weak government trying to act strong against people with no other options. Fuck that. Itā€™s simply not ok.

Iā€™d say heā€™ll have to rejig it alright. Fly into Belfast or something. But heā€™d spent a nice few quid on the flights as well

When you think about it like that youā€™d wonder how anybody actually gets caught out with it

I never said it was ok?
There is scope for more than one conversation.
I think itā€™s ridiculous hyperbole to compare it with North Korea or Nazi Germany, and all this shit about it going in indefinitely is equally ridiculous.
Itā€™s shit, thereā€™s been a load of fuck ups, but itā€™s nearly over now, the MHQ situation is fluid, who knows what the situation will be in 6 weeks?

Good post mate,

I personally donā€™t believe weā€™re anywhere near the end game on this though.

Sincerely, hope Iā€™m wrong but as things are with the zero covid zealots ruling over the country - we are not going back to anything approaching life pre covid. Theyā€™re already alluding to vaccines not being this silver bullet etc etc,

Its a bleak outlook, but I reckon thats the case.

Vaccine passports are coersion and that is going to be an interesting piece August/September time.

Vaccine passports are pretty similar to the tactics the Naziā€™s carried out on the jews mate. Freedoms taken away from one section of society - think about it.

Its quite ironic really that Israel is actually leading the way on what is a two tiered society via these passports. I.E if you refuse the jab youā€™re more or less not allowed be part of society.

Thats mad, and with the MHQ we have in here now - its clearly all ahead of us.

With regards to lads mentioning North Korea, iā€™d imagine thats due to the ridiclious 5km limit bullshit. Kim Jong doesnt even do that!
