Except they didnât, and itâs easy to compare countries and US states that did or didnât lockdown or force masks. Thereâs no overall difference.
If something else serious happens, we will deal with it when it happens â hopefully with lessons learned.
Boros Johnson was advised to lock down at an early stage. He did not, because of the Kangos in his party. Now Britain is far worse off, and is locking down fully anyhow, than if he had locked down earlier.
But this is factually incorrect. I supported Lockdown 1.0, you can go and look.
After, I actually advocated more Big State interventions as part of our virus control, like training up more ICU nurses, investing in track and trace etc.
I think we would have been better off at least trying to go for proper surveillance and tracing than blunt force restrictions, thatâs it really. Both have a significant level of State activity, no matter the way you cut it.
Once again, our figures for the last few week are worse than the US or UK have ever got. I think we had a highly tuned in population (more than other countries) that were worn down by the overuse of restrictions. We will likely see a worse hospital situation than April now, despite 3 lockdowns, go figure.
Most people can live with a lockdown this time around. January is fairly bleak at the best of times and it is hard to argue with the numbers. Just like at the end of a war everyone wants to get out of there without getting taken out by friendly fire. To that end anyone who needs an ICU bed or life saving treatment should be able to get it.
Numbers will come down hopefully and schools can go back sooner rather than later and please god by the summer there will be more positive news.
Your simple worldview is left vs. right, Koch Bros vs. Bernie, Guardian vs. Daily Telegraph
But what I advocated was for the mass expansion of our public health system, to pay for public health infrastructure akin to South Korean etc. I would also have paid anyone who couldnât work due to this.
It was nothing to do with your simple world view. I simply had a different view of what Big State intervention to take.
You cant depend on people taking personal responsibilty. Itâs a failure of the latter that has us where we are. A lockdown sends a clear message that behaviour needs to change. It is folly to suggest any other measure would reduce case numbers to managable levels.
