Coronavirus - Here for life (In high population density areas)

As I suspected it’s a big “fuck you” to the vulnerable groupings impacted by lockdowns.

In your world those people are not worth the time of day.

what created the fear?

Except they didn’t, and it’s easy to compare countries and US states that did or didn’t lockdown or force masks. There’s no overall difference.

I am sorry but what if-ery never does it for me.

If something else serious happens, we will deal with it when it happens – hopefully with lessons learned.

Boros Johnson was advised to lock down at an early stage. He did not, because of the Kangos in his party. Now Britain is far worse off, and is locking down fully anyhow, than if he had locked down earlier.

Can you not see what is happening here?

No overall difference in what? Death rates?

Really? So Ireland would be as well off not in lockdown now? We would be in the same place more or less in 3 months time regardless?

Listen, cop yourself on. You could not be more wrong.

What scenario are you urging? A full open up? Why are you so shy in this one regard?

Or are you just another recreational whinge merchant? A walking self indulgence?

But this is factually incorrect. I supported Lockdown 1.0, you can go and look.

After, I actually advocated more Big State interventions as part of our virus control, like training up more ICU nurses, investing in track and trace etc.

I think we would have been better off at least trying to go for proper surveillance and tracing than blunt force restrictions, that’s it really. Both have a significant level of State activity, no matter the way you cut it.

Once again, our figures for the last few week are worse than the US or UK have ever got. I think we had a highly tuned in population (more than other countries) that were worn down by the overuse of restrictions. We will likely see a worse hospital situation than April now, despite 3 lockdowns, go figure.

the Chinese are doing great with their figures, no lockdowns there, I wonder why that is

Exactly.

I am glad they are all being flushed out. They mostly have no position except a demented anti state one.

You have not got a clue, as was known to me all along and as was abundantly demonstrated to everyone this evening.

Over and out.

Twang.

What is going to happen in the hospitals for the next month or so was seeded 2 weeks ago, Lockdown will do nothing for that.

The Fear from those case loads would have reduced R regardless, which will only start to help hospitals in 3/4 weeks.

That’s what the evidence continually shows.

It’s not a binary choice but I suspect we’d be better off if people and politicians could look around them, take reasonable measures etc

Most people can live with a lockdown this time around. January is fairly bleak at the best of times and it is hard to argue with the numbers. Just like at the end of a war everyone wants to get out of there without getting taken out by friendly fire. To that end anyone who needs an ICU bed or life saving treatment should be able to get it.

Numbers will come down hopefully and schools can go back sooner rather than later and please god by the summer there will be more positive news.

Ah sure you know better than the King of Sweden.

He will give you a Nobel Prize, no doubt.

Flesh it out.

Your simple worldview is left vs. right, Koch Bros vs. Bernie, Guardian vs. Daily Telegraph

But what I advocated was for the mass expansion of our public health system, to pay for public health infrastructure akin to South Korean etc. I would also have paid anyone who couldn’t work due to this.

It was nothing to do with your simple world view. I simply had a different view of what Big State intervention to take.

Aye, but if we dont we can lockdown again. The businesses and the self employed will pay the cost

You cant depend on people taking personal responsibilty. It’s a failure of the latter that has us where we are. A lockdown sends a clear message that behaviour needs to change. It is folly to suggest any other measure would reduce case numbers to managable levels.

“I suspect”, I am afraid, is not the foundation on which any policy could safely rest.
