It’s a bit of a mixed bag for me. Depends on workload/distractions. But it does feel like the era of mandated 9-5, 5 days a week is done for certain types of office workers.
I was back in the office on Friday, first time since March, and it felt like a meaningful milestone in getting back to normality. Also, back in March our office was mid-refurbishment. It had been like working on a building site for the 6 months previous with the sounds of hammering and drilling being a permanent distraction. All that work is now done which is a plus.
The balance for me is certainly going to be 3/2 or 2/3. Most likely the latter if I can make it happen.
There is also the push away from urban centres. In our case moving home to Kilkenny actually seems feasible in a way that it didn’t a year ago.
In my head right now, I’m thinking when we get back to something that looks similar to pre-Covid my weekly split will be in the office Tuesday and Thursday and WFH the other 3. That way you never commute two days in a row and you avoid the friday evening meltdown out of Dublin.
I brought the child for her test in Croke Park Handball alley this morning . The nice clinician lady that did the test said they were testing huge numbers of children since the schools opened. Hardly surprising, but I’m not sure testing every child who gets a snotty nose through an Irish winter is viable.
My mate’s wife is a GP, their young lad was sent home from infants with a runny nose after day 1. They hadn’t much choice but to send him for a test then
Due to the nature of my role, I’m pretty much in the office for the full 5 days a week.
The official communication from my employer is that we must wear a mask in all common areas Basically means I have to wear a mask whenever I’m not at my desk.
