Just 6 weeks until the next 6 weeks lads don’t fret

The worst of all will be after 6 weeks when cases have fallen a bit to maybe 400 a day, Harris/Holohan etc will be out telling us Level 5 is working, we just need to redouble our efforts over Christmas as its too risky to relax any measure over the festive period.

If we work hard for 6 weeks, we’ll be allowed sing jingle bells in our parents garden for 10 minutes on Christmas Day.

Its just a given that the virus will grow through the community again. There will be loads of house calls and parties over Christmas. People meet a lot more relatives and friends at Christmas that they might not see all year round. Cases jumped from less than 500 a day in early October to more than a 1000 on average a day 2 weeks later. 1,000 a day by mid January might be very conservative actually. At the end of this 6 weeks I cant see even the bedwetters having too much appetite for this continuous cycle of lockdowns to continue. We are just kicking the can down the road. What do you think will happen?

Why aren’t we learning to live with COVID-19?

The government and nphet new well we would swallow any auld bullshit when they wouldn’t allowed a crowd of 500 out doors at a gaa game. That was the start of the insanity.

yeah that’s exponential growth. Doubling every 2 weeks.

The thing with exponential growth is there is also exponential decline. I expect the numbers to be back to really low numbers by the 6 week timeframe, if it’s reducing by half every 2 weeks it will be back to low numbers, then we’ll get the r rate manageable.

It’s about compliance then. People are blaming NPHET, but we had a go at level 2 and didn’t comply and it didn’t work. It isn’t all a one way street Johnny. If we can manage the virus at level 2 with compliance we shouldn’t need to have more lockdowns

Thats exactly what I would be thinking as well. It might go down to 400/500 a day by early December and then what… The annual Christmas movie on RTE will be replaced by Tony calling for the next 2 “critical weeks”. Countdown for New Years will be replaced by Sam McDonkey giving apocalyptic predictions on Claire Byrne. We’ve seen it for the last 8 months now. Why do people have this unfounded expectation that they will somehow magically develop some Christmas cheer. And we will be treated by a chorus of dimwits that if only we did what we were told we would have had a special Christmas. The same ones who will get Luke O Neills book to Christmas number 1 and Simon Harris turning on the lights on Grafton St.

This is really just level 3. I don’t see anything that’s changed bar putting a few number limits on crowds and screwing the pubs.

Good that we’re getting back to normality for Christmas which was the reason for the lockdown

Shops, barbers, salons, gyms, etc.

Fair enough but calling it level 5 is Madness.

This is an interesting slide that Philip Nolan tweeted last night. Essentially saying that if we get the R0 to 0.5 for 6 weeks (which seems extremely optimistic) then by early Dec we should be at circa 100 cases/day.

If we reopen at that point the cases will increase again. Certainly from that slide it would suggest into the mid-hundreds per day at end of Jan with lockdown 3 being on the cards. And that’s in a near “best-case” scenario

I think this is a major mistake.

They should open pubs and restaurants and have the gardaí calling round inspecting. Businesses would ensure compliance if they knew they’d be shut down for breach. That way you’d allow people socialise in controlled settings.

Shut them down and you are left with house calls which are far more unsafe. I think this is an obvious result and that this is a stupid move. This is the second time they’ve made this mistake.

Manage it at Level 2.

They tried that and shit themselves over the cases.

The problem is not a pandemic one, it’s a health system one.
