Testing and tracing has collapsed again. We went into lockdowm 2 because of this. They didnât put in the required resources required during the summer knowing it was coming. At that time MM said we were going to fix this system and make it more robust to accommodate another surges they expected to see the increase after Christmas. This was highlighted at easing of restrictions.
Yet here we are again. People can shoulder some the blame for the increasing numbers due tomeeting people and gathering etc. But the collapse of the system is not acceptable and falls on the goverment.

I thought MM was hiring an additional 1k to the HSE on permanent contracts with an approx lifetime cost of âŹ1bn after a bit of a furore over hiring contractors

Testing and tracing is and always has been doomed to failure in fairness.

This is some failure by government and hse, they have built no additional hospital capacity, little functioning track and trace capacity and fuck all additional testing capacity in 9 months. The UK have managed to get to 750k testing capacity.
They should be hung drawn and quartered.

Tracing is pretty much pointless at the level of spread tbh. People do just need to stay at home as much as possible.
We needed hardcore tracing during the summer months to try and keep cases low.
The precarious situation we are in now is that NPHET have cried wolf so many times that a large section of the population no longer listen. They could have predicted this if they had followed their own advice from February and March.

Mate, those masks are advised to help with social distance. Nobody thinks they are COVID barriers.
