Again, it is a quirk of stats. The data that interests me is the true prevalence amongst vaccinated vs unvaccinated.
*As of August 16, the ministry recorded 159 severe COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people among the unvaccinated over the age of 60, compared to 20 per 100,000 people among the fully vaccinated. This makes the unvaccinated elderly more than eight times as likely to experience a severe case than their immunized counterparts.
For those under the age of 60, the rate of severe illness among the unvaccinated stood at 2.4 cases per 100,000 people ā 2.7 times more than the 0.9 per 100,000 among those who are fully vaccinated.
ā¦
While the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine may have waned somewhat over the past several months, those who are vaccinated are protected five to 10 times as much as those who are unable or unwilling to receive the shot, said Prof. Nadav Davidovitch, director of the School of Public Health at Ben-Gurion University of the Desert, Beāer Sheva, and head of the Israeli Association of Public Health Physicians.*
The data on antibodies waning is interesting in terms of blocking infections but the vaccines are still doing their primary job.
The AI event seems to be another where the OIUTF and Zero Risk crew are aligned for very different reasons.
I see the limerick fans were defecating in peoples gardens
They are a public health menace, I was in tears when I read that.
Iām.still in tears
Thereās always been a moralistic angle to restrictions here.
The AI has brought back the prevalence of Irish shithousery and pitting people against each other and being fucking rats.
The entertainment industry has been massively affected throughout all of this, much like the pubs, but this whole thing now of oh look at what they got, and instead of taking their anger out at the absolutely absurd guidelines and restrictions which at every possible turn keep contradicting themselves, there is now a concerted energy to whinge and moan at how the GAA got to have 40,000 at their final. Pictures of the streets and stadium etc. If they want their industry to reopen, they should be highlighting how good it is, not how bad it is, and that they should be able to get it too. Instead they are in danger of running down a route that will just shut everything up again.
āHow is this safe but gigs arentā. Fair enough lads, youāre right, itās not safe. Keep it locked up.
And the faux āIām happy for themā thrown in at the end to try hide their seethe. Instead of pissing and moaning about what another industry got to have opened, they should be hailing it as a success and another tick in the box to be able to open up their own sector.
Plenty of musician/performer types are highlighting the absurdity of the guidelines. They have every right to be pissed off at the double standard
When lads cheerleaded this nonsense and indulged it last year, scenarios like this were always going to arise.
The curtains are twitching again
How so?
The best way is the protest tbh. Quite a few industries sat around and allowed themselves to be hit, led by poor industry reps.
I just donāt like the āitās only cause its the GAA type narrativeā they are pushing. Theyāve been allowing large crowds at other sporting events too, and rightly so.
The Government have let the arts/entertainment sector down badly, but thatās not the fault of the GAA.
Pre vaccination protests were as likely to do as much damage as they were designed to prevent. The country was/is brainwashed. Easier now alright but still frought
Surely the basis for any argument where you feel aggrieved by something is to find a comparator who has been treated more favourably? The GAA clearly have and others are right to feel aggrieved ā¦
The pilot one worked well.
The GAA is the emotive lightening rod of the nation. No one gives a fuck about rubby or soccer
I disagree entirely. They are blaming the gaa for getting crowds at the AI. They absolutely should be getting better support and a roadmap of when gigs and concerts can resume in some manner, thatās not like the measly efforts of the two test events, but they should be using the AI as a way to show how crowds are acceptable and worked, not to be fighting with one another over a decision neither of them can make
