Gibberish, tourists are forced there as its near the only regularly serviced airport and as ive already stated its one of the only visitable places in the city. That doesnât make it anyway nice by any standard other than how horrendous the rest of the inner city is. Youâve admitted as much in other posts, hoping certain areas will be âgemsâ in 20 years, decrying tara street etc but donât like your own logic thrown at you
Yes I love Buenos Aires. Most South American and Central American cities are more for a vibe though I would say.
I dont mind Dublin ⌠like visiting ⌠but letâs be honest, as Cities go around Europe - there aint much too it if casually walking around. Itâs grand⌠but thereâs much, much nicer around.
Dublin is an absolute fucking kip of a place.
Crawling with junkies and skobies. There is a smell of absolute shit off the Liffey.
Knock it and start again
BA is like being in Europe â weird place but great night life.
Belfast is unusual in that it still has a big main road/route through centre of it. Most other cities have directed traffic from travelling through centre from one side to other
Winchester is a lovely little City Centre in England.
Tourists are not forced there.
Tourists and expats are free to go where they like. They go to Dublin in their droves.
Trinity and the historic Georgian Core are often the most cited best parts about it. You named the likes of Killiney (being nice) and West Dublin (with shitholes). Most tourists donât go near those places (even your Dalkeys), thatâs just your familiarity bias getting in the way.
I donât consider Dublin to be an architectural marvel on a par with Paris, but it has a great deal more to it than you give credit for.
Dublin is actually ok geographically, coastline (even if it is the radioactive irish sea) , hills, the lowest rainfall in ireland. But the natives ruin it alright. That goes for most of irelands urban spaces, theres no civic pride in how areas look bar a few villages populated by tidy towns nazis
youâre spot on
The architecture you are enamoured with is a few streets of georgian houses and a university. Nothing in comparison to many European cities. Ive often heard and seen reviews of tourists bemoaning how dirty it is and how it pales in comparison with the west coast, but it kind of has to be ticked off as the only mid sized city in the country and of course because the airport is there, you are conveniently ignoring that point.
Im only giving an unbiased opinion, tim thinks trinners is the sorbonne and a few rows of old georgian houses comparable to trafalgar square. Heâs incredibly shortsighted and biased, but dubliners are beset with delusions of grandeur.
imagine living next to John Caulfield
Youâve âoften seen reviewsâ but then say tourists are forced there. Letâs stick to actual facts versus anecdotes. Tourists come to Dublin in their droves. An airport is located there because of demand, itâs really not that difficult.
There is plenty of fine architecture in Dublin.
âAâ university. It takes up a significant portion of the CBD. As does the Georgian Core.
Your familiarity bias and anti Dublin stance clouds your opinion.
i would agree that in the city center that stretch from heuston to o conell st. /parnell st. is really grim
ditto from connolly accross to westmoreland st.
large parts of the town are horrible
So the airport was only built there after tourists were canvassed for locations? It was built there as there was a policy of centralization around dublin ever since it was the seat of British power for a few hundred years. And that is the sole reason tourists come in their droves. The wild Atlantic way is the primary reason tourists come back to Ireland.
Delighted ive exploded your self notion as a balanced debater here at least, when your average size, average in all way city is questioned your turn as myopic and non sensical as munster or dublin gaa fans do when failing to land a glove on our friend in brazil.
Overall its noy pleasant, clean, or worth visiting. There are some nice places, it stands to reason the whole isnât terrible, but there are nice places in every city.dublin is comparable to liverpool, a few nice older buildings, surrounded by mediocrity. I wint start listing cities ive been to but i cant actualky think if one that it beats. Glasgow actually thats one.
If only someone had the foresight to build an airport in the heart of the West of Ireland, where airlines seeing the demand from tourists, could easily fly to. Why has this never been built. For shame. For shame. The West getting fucked over again âŚ
I like Dublin.
There isnât many routes to shannon or much service, it is literally next to nothing, so the fact it gets business at all kind of proves my point, thanks. If there was a comparable centre close to it tourists wouldnât look at dublin, but the irish government continued the policy the brits did of favouring the pale. Are you denying this
