Daily debate roberto Carlos/Cafu v Marcelo/dani alves

Philip Lahm was the best in the world for a while

Lahm was poor defensively. He was abysmal in the Euros semi against Italy in 2012.

Evra was a great too.

He was slow and could get burned for pace. He was brilliant for 3-4 years and could change a game from full back

Evra > Marcelo

Yes

I never really rated Lahm that highly. I thought he was a bit overrated just through longevity of playing for Bayern and Germany for ages and I think the inverse of what @Batigol says is also true sometimes. You are presumed to be a great defender if you aren’t that explosive going forward and are playing for a top team. Wouldn’t have him near Alves

Our own Denis Irwin, not at an international stage obviously but he was very much a top class full back. He’d shit all over any full back playing the premier league this year

Irwin was shit.

Ah jesus

The most overrated Irish player of all time

Was always a big fan of Moreno Torricelli, Trap loved him.

Panucci on the great AC Milan team of 1994 was a great left back cc @Fulvio_From_Aughnacloy

That was a great team. Favourite team of my youth and the greatest club side of the last 30 years

The modern day full backs are like snowflakes. No sense of duty, no pride in their work, full of entitlement and feel they have no responsibility to do their job as part of a defensive unit.

They only want to attack and get forward.
