Documentaries worth watching
I watched Anvil there a couple of weeks ago. It’s a pretty good watch in a sad/pathetic way.

Give it up lads for fuck sake.
But they’re selling out shows all over the place on the back of it now CLD! That’ll probably only last a couple of years at most but hey, if they’re wise they can make some decent cash.

Loved the doc myself, some priceless moments in it.

Yeah I saw that meself the other night. The desperation was a little uncomfortable. Not a bad watch though.

Can’t believe Touching the Void isn’t on this. Brilliant

Very rarely is a film/doco as good as the book, but this was

Grizzly man was cracking as well

Was grizzly man about that gobshite you were delighted to see die in the end?

Yeah, still a very good watch though. Soundtrack is very good too, mostly Richard Thompson making his guitar sing.

Saw Waveriders last week. It was alright, tried a bit too hard to big up Ireland even though the footage of the surf was excellent. The George Freeth story is interesting though.

There was a programme about Cathal O’Shannon there on RTE, and it had clips from a documentary he did on the Irish fighting on both sides of the Spanish Civil War. Would love to get hold of that.

Enron: the smartest guys in the room is just after starting on more4…anyone seen it before, is it worth 2 hours+ of my time

or 73c

the enron docu is a very good show, the cojones of those guys was breathtaking, and the schemes were unbelievable

Yerrah I’ll be up all night anyway so I have just stuck it on. It will take me up to the opening hours of the TFK Nightwatchman thread.

It’s average enough. At the time I’m sure it had way more impact, particularly in the states.

A bit of nudity in it anyway, might stick with it

Watching Seven Ages on DVD at the moment.

Essential viewing for anyone with an interest in recent Irish history.

Over the last couple of weeks I watched all of Peter Taylor’s trilogy - “Provos”, “Loyalists” and “Brits” on Youtube.

The below is “Hidden Hand”, an ITV documentary from 1993 on the Dublin and Monaghan bombings of 1974. It’s a tough watch as the sound quality isn’t great but the content makes it worthwhile. Leaves you in no doubt that the Brits were up to their arse in the planning of it.

:pint:

Terrible pity that Ali ended up winning it.

Frazier was quiet and dignified throughout the whole thing. A real legend.

Have watched Murderball and one about Wall Mart in recent times.

Murderball is about wheelchair rugby and is a very good watch. Make you think twice about feeling sorry for yourself.

The Wall Mart one is called the high cost of low prices or something. The shit that they get away with is fucked up beyond belief. Come into a community destroy the town. Pay shit wages and don’t pay for overtime. Import all their goods from sweatshops etc. Very good watch aswell

Has anyone mentioned When We Were Kings yet?

For Robert Fisk readers there’s a few brilliant documentaries on YouTube by him at the moment. Also, for music fans, there’s an excellent documentary called ‘Dig!’ based around the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. A great watch whether you listen to them or not.
