I watched Facing Ali last weekend, I must say it’s one of the best sports documentaries I have ever watched.
You don’t need to be into boxing to enjoy this. It’s basically the opinions of opponents of Ali that faced him throughout
his career and the affect it had on them etc. Foreman,Frasier,Norton,Spinks,Chuvalo and Cooper to name but a few,
all in all excellent viewing for about an hour and a half.

Couldn’t compare it to When we were kings though, surely ta fook?
Two completely different styles of documentaries in fairness. It’s been years since I watched When We Were Kings but I
found this every bit as entertaining, it was great to hear the fighters opinions after all the years that had passed.
well worth a look anyway regardless of whether it’s as good or not.

To my shame, at one time I used to be sympathetic enough towards Israel. This was down to not acquainting myself with the facts nearly enough and swallowing media bullshit in the process. I actually squirm with embarrassment thinking about it. Here’s two documentaries about the mess that this vile terrorist apartheid state has created, the first one focusses on their influence in the media, the second one gives the background to the conflict and the hardship endured by the Palestinians on the West Bank.

Has anybody else watched this yet. I could hardly believe it when I found it myself.
It’s an interview on 60 minutes with John Gotti Jr (son of the former head of the Gambino crime family) about two weeks ago on his life in the mafia. Bizarre.
Ken Loach documentary on the miners strikes from the 80s. More about the songs and poetry written about the strikes but it’s a good watch. No harm to have a timely reminder of the Tories too.

Interesting documentary about the English fans at Italia 90. It’s made by Keith Allen, Lily’s uncle, who I think lives in Ireland now. He organises the Flatlakes musical festival in Monaghan. He also directed a good film Twin Town set in Wales
I think you’ll find Keith is Lily’s father.
sorry meant kevin
Check out any Michio Kaku videos on Youtube the mans a legend, also the BBC Horizon docs are good aswell.
Adam Curtis’ BBC series “The Trap” - deals with concepts of “freedom” and the over-reliance of modern society on “quantifying” everything:
watched this last night night, good watch alright, some sad srories especially what happened to chuvalo’s family after he finished boxing…
leon spinks came across as a bit of a tard
Saw this last night too-pretty good, nothing brilliant though. Chuvalo’s story was the most interesting alright.
Joe Frazier had good things to say about Ali-despite what the documentary on Frazier himself leads us to believe.
Spinks has dementia and has it tough these days-has two jobs as a cleaner to keep him going I believe.
Watched this last night rocko, very good. Typical Ken Loach in that it’s completely from the people at the heart of it. So many things like this feature ‘experts’ who explain what the people at the heart of it went through. The conduct of the police is fairly exposed as well. It seems no matter where you go in the world the police will always be on hand to batter innocent people.
