Driving Licence

Rintintin - it says there are now learner permits rather than provisional licences and there’s alll sorts of shit you need to do before getting one. Surely this changes everything?

carryharry - tell me what I need to do to get another provisional licence or one of these new learner permit yokeys.

Surely a man of your talents can write this off against your taxes in the way of expenses? The same will apply for the consultancy fee for this advice.

Here pal.

My brother is in the process of doing his driving test. Before he got his provisional he had to do an online theory test. He then had to do 12 driving lessons before he could apply for his full test. Think that was all there was to it.

Beware of the insurance when you’re a provisional driver - fucking huge.

I need you to outline the process in bullet points (bearing in mind I’ve allowed two provisional licences to lapse already).

That mere website link isn’t enough carryharry - I find the whole thing overwhelming.

I can’t be arsed as i passed it first time about 13 years ago. I can recommend this though :

Be safe.

Hang on there lads, it says you’ll be treated as a first time applicant if you have not held a learner permit in that category for 5 years. I’m sure my second provisional lapsed back in 2007 or 2008 so I could be in business. Fuck you, carryharry.

Being treated a first time applicant is not good.

That means you will be required to have 12 lessons before the test and whole load of other restrictions. I think these restrictions don’t apply to those who have held a provisional licence prior to the rules being introduced.

So I should go down the route of getting the third permit and “fronting up” with the €85 test fee?

Has learning to drive entered your head at any stage?

Yes if you can. Otherwise you will be required to sit 12 lessons which would probably cost about 35/40 quid a pop, so do the maths on that yourself.

Bandage is loaded so money is no object to him.

In that case he should pay someone to sit his driving test for him.

I work in a bank pal so you’ll have to help me out here.

Don’t do it pal. Driving is for peasants. You and I are the type of people that get driven.

Just earlier this evening myself and my Father had a good chuckle at a 30 year old nephew of his who still hasnt learned to drive and still relies on my uncle to pick him up in Galway anytime he comes home.

Bandage, your old man was a Guard wasn’t he? Surely he could swing a license for you without inconveniences like a test?

Sounds like your cousin is a sensible type who knows there will always be someone there to drive him somewhere when he needs it.

Found my second provisional, chaps. It expired in January 2008 so that’s greater than 5 years ago, according to my calculations. I think that means I’m effectively treated as a new applicant but I’m unsure so need Rintintin to clarify. I know that would cause the hassle of the theory test and 12 mandatory lessons but this may not necessarily be a bad thing as I’m petrified of roads and cars.
