Energy Crisis

Ffs

Greenhouse gas emissions are on the rise in Ireland aren’t they? They’ve risen by 11% since 1990 or something and 2021 was up 4.7% on 2020.

Did someone say Eamon Ryans policies were working?

Yes @myboyblue we had these in our day too. We called them dynamoes. You attached them to the wheel of your bicycle and produced enough electricity to power the light on your bike.

And the reflectors that were included in a box of Kellogs Corn Flakes were common too

The smart meter was installed lately and is now commissioned so I’ve switched to Electric Ireland’s smart plan which gives cheaper electricity between 11 and 8 in the morning and cheaper again between 2 and 4 (something like 10 cents per unit). Delay timers are set on the washing machine, tumble dryer (when necessary to use) and the dishwasher to switch on between 2 and 4 to take advantage of this rate.

It was nice knowing you.

Be interested to hear how this goes for you… Lot of advice not to go near them plans… They don’t seem to suit a fella WFH at all

An Electric Ireland rep told me last week that those plans are a disaster.

I seem to be on a lower unit rate here than they are offering me on the smart plans.

I didn’t look into it in any great detail but it would seem to me to suit people who are gone from the house from early until about 7pm…some of them offer free electricity for one day at the weekend so you would do all your washing and drying etc then…

Climate Change has saved Europe. While the pricks on bikes wanted old people to freeze to death this winter.

I used 42 kw/h one Saturday going Buck ape on the free electricity. Saved me 13 euro.

I did a load of washing and drying. Ran the dishwasher whenever it was half full. I bought two dimplex heaters and had then running all day - kids and Missus giving out the place was sweltering but I wouldn’t listen. It’s free I said. Free.

Had the immersion on all day. Charged all the devices I could find.

A memory of 80s frugality and OCD is a heady cocktail.

Is there anyway to check on the Electric Ireland website what your tarrifs will be if you come off contract?

If lads are coming off discounts in the next few months they’d want to be moving now. You’ll get some hole opening otherwise.
