I’ve been impressed with Downing today. Vermaelen has dealt capably with the aerial threat from Liverpool too. Nasri has that touch of class, as others have said. Yes. I’ve been critical of the fee Downing has commanded but he has looked Liverpool’s most threatening player today. Andy Carroll has been appalling and looks very cumbersome with the ball played to his feet and immobile if it’s played down the channels.
