Equality

The anti-trans agenda in right-wing America and elsewhere is so fucking creepy. I don’t understand it - except through the frame that it is a horrible, bullying way of stoking baseless fear and horrible anger against a marginalised and vulnerable minority in order to shore up a bigoted voting base. It’s gross. Sad but predictable to see the usual suspects with unhappy lives on this forum sucked in by it.

Here’s the future of female sports. A bloke cracking the skull of a woman in the interest of equality. Some freaks on here would celebrate this.

It’s a pretty sad reflection on somebody that they sit up at night trying to spread fear about trans women.

The same lad isn’t worried about a pandemic that has killed several million.

Baseless fear? You put a biological man and a biological woman into a boxing ring, or as already seen, a UFC ring. It’s absolute carnage, it’s dangerous, futile and should never be allowed. It’s nothing to do with an anti-trans agenda, it’s about common sense, fairness and protection for participants.

What should the government have to do with it? Nobody has been able to answer this.

The way you’re going on you’d swear MMA was a sport without danger. Not long ago there was a video of a poor Portuguese chap being pummelled to his death in the National Stadium at an MMA event. I don’t recall much outcry from the anti-trans loonies after that.

None of this is about sport. It’s about the insane right wing culture war, which has been constructed as a distraction from right-wing politics’s total uselessness at improving the lives of the vast majority of people.

I’ve answered it. The government should intervene when there is clear discrimination. Allowing biological men and boys compete against women and girls in sport is clear discrimination.

Most Democrats I know agree with me on this, the few I know who argue for it are nutters.

Don’t forget the same people calling for the right of biological men to compete with women in sport are the same ones who argue the solution to violent crime is to get rid of police, abolish the justice system, and release all prisoners.

Common sense wouldn’t be their strength.

But you’re the person arguing for discrimination.

Calling people “nutters” isn’t an argument. I mean I think you’re demonstrably an absolute nutter on the vest majority of subjects including this one and I think six years of your posts would comprehensively back me up on that. But that’s not my argument.

My view is the De Santis and the other scummy Republican politicians in other states are doing this not out of any concern whatsoever for women’s sport but to humiliate trans people and whip up the bigots as part of an insane culture war.

I think is demonstrably true and I have not heard you or anybody else come up with one word to dispute it.

Government has no place whatsoever in this area and you have not come up with one word to dispute that.

Of all the posters on this site, you would be one of the last people that any sort of common sense would be associated with.

You remind me of the loonies from the Spectator and the Daily Mail. It’s a great far right cliche to claim the words “common sense” for yourself while advocating thing like the banning of all Islam and simultaneously calling the Saudi regime “benevolent”.

And being singularly unable to deal with the very sensible arguments of left wingers and liberals on things like crime, which is why, like a typical right winger, you have to deal with straw man versions of arguments rather than real ones.

Trans rights are here to stay and will not be held back in the long term. And the carping of middle aged male bigots like you is not to change that.

Hurt middle aged male feelings ahoy.

Grow up.

Only a matter of time before a few biological women are killed in the ring, cage or on the field by an opponent with physical advantages greater than what could be achieved by a lifetime on steroids. If that’s what the people who are competing want, fair enough, but there is no denying that will happen.

People have been killed in combat sports for as long as they have existed. Surely if you think this is an issue, you want those sports banned?

No. I’m a fan of combat sports. Combat sports have weight divisions for that very reason. Weight divisions have less relevance when comparing a biological woman to one who has given a large proportion of her life as a man, due the the difference in skeleton size and where they carry their fat.

Weight cuts, for example, are much tougher for biological women. On fight night they would likely be giving away a lot of weight to their opponent.

Again, I’m happy to acknowledge it’s not for me to make the decision and if the women in the sport are happy to compete like that, more power to them. But I’d be personally against it.

So you acknowledge it should be up to each individual sport to come up with and apply rules - not government.

Rather than a broad brush, sledgehammer, bigoted dog whistle approach to a complex issue.

The Republican party doesn’t give a flying shit about violence being inflicted against women. Hence why the Trump regime let the Violence Against Women Act fall off the books and the vast majority of House Republicans voted against its renewal by Democrats this spring.

I think Government should stay out of as much as they can. The only way I would have them stepping in is if this was being done without due regard to the safety of participants. If the people already participating in the sport are happy, I’d let them work away.

I still think it’s wrong and, long term, will be very damaging to female sport. I think there are reasons why females dont compete with males and I think people are disregarding that (and common sense) for the sake of appearing “woke” on the matter.

The far leftie loony weirdos can’t bring themselves to acknowledge the difference between biological men and women. Everyone has the right to live in peace and free from discrimination but no one has the right to deny biological fact. Anyone defending biological men competing against women is either stupid or has a sick agenda. I think we all know this weirdo here has an agenda.

The best people to determine the rules are the people involved in particular sports. Not dog whistling right wing politicians. Sport has never been about fairness, incidentally. Was it fair when Jonah Lomu flattened Mike Catt? Is it fair when Germany play Gibraltar?

When I was a kid girls would sometimes play in our football matches on the street. Will Republicans be banning that too? Where does it stop? Will they be banning mixed doubles tennis too?

Why shouldn’t females compete with males if they’re able to? Fallon Sherrock competed in the PDC World Darts Championship and did very well.

If Ada Hegerberg is good enough, why shouldn’t she be allowed play football against the men?

What about intersex people? Why should they not have the opportunity to play sport?

Are you proposing to ban mixed doubles tennis? What about Fallon Sherrock competing in the PDC Darts?

When you say “nobody has a right to deny biological fact”, that weird language is carte blanche for broad brush discrimination against trans people at every level. It’s carte blanche for banning trans people full stop.

The only sickness here is the very creepy obsession some people have with denying trans people rights.

Everybody is different biologically. I’ve seen 5 foot 4 Alan Hubbard play against 6 foot 5 Darragh O’Shea. Should they be on the same pitch?

Ironically the anti-trans agenda is all about denying biology because it reduces sex to being purely of genitalia, which it is utterly obsessed with.

Women can’t compete with men. In any sport. You should make your peace with that. You weirdo.

Ah right. I’m the weirdo. Says you. Who just said the above.

Come out of the 19th century, mate.

You do realise that Rachael Blackmore won Grand National this year? Yes?

I dont know why you keep bringing up Republicans to me so I’m just going to ignore that aspect of your post.

Sport has always been about fairness. In a fair world, the better player/team wins. Just like in a fair world, the harder worker makes more money, the person with the better business ideas is more successful etc.

I see no reason for females not to compete against men in sports where physical strength/speed is not required but very few seem to be able to.

I do think very few women would be able to compete with men at physical sports. It generally leads to lopsided results. Australia’s National Football (ranked 5th in the world at the time) team lost 7-0 to the Newcastle Jets U-15s a few years ago. I dont think hidings like that would do women’s sports any favours, or increase participation at underage.
