If ze Germans dig in and hold the line they’ll force an armistice but hopefully won’t get fucked by everybody else for it this time.
Is this super league supposed to replace domestic leagues or the champions league or both?
Correct. Also this only three countries within uefa but still finishes the champions league.
Fifa have been toying with the expanded fifa world club cup. It’s clear they were trying to get a bigger piece of the pie.
Champions league.
It is supposed to replace the Champions League but the plan is that domestic leagues would remain in place, though it looks like they would effectively turn into secondary competitions.
The real problem is that it would mean only five clubs could gain entry through qualification, with 15 places being permanent.
It’s a terrible idea.
Sounds shit.
Founding clubs say it’s not to replace any existing competition.
You sound shit.
How would it not replace the Champions League? You can’t have a Premier League and a Champions League taking place alongside a European Super League.
Basically it’s like croke park trying to get rid of the provincial championships but they can’t because of the provincial councils.
The knockout stages of the CL have been box office for the last 10 years. It doesn’t need changing.
I presume the trophy for the winners of this proposed new competition would be presented to the owners of the winning team, rather than the captain?
This thing about the 5 teams coming in ‘on merit’ is hair brained, what metrics will be used and how they decide relegation/promotion etc if the original 12/15 teams are permanent fixtures. Presumably bottom 2 from the 5 ‘associate’ members each year or something. Mad Ted.
Shur when will it be played off then?
The Founding Clubs won’t play in Champions League but Champions League can continue without them.
Jesus about 450 unread posts that I’ve just scrolled through there. Serious levels of football knowledge and debate on display here.
Yeah that’ll work.
There’s a few naive lads knocking about this place… Oh we’ll just have a super league on Wednesdays, promise… We won’t totally break away and do our own thing 10 years down the road.
These clubs will have been very well advised before they pulled the pin on this grenade. UEFA are scrambling
