FIFA want an expanded World Club Cup. I can see them backing The Super League as a global tournament
I’ve been to Dalymount and the Carlisle Grounds following the reserves. This means more.
They were only there to see the Rovers
Harchester United sold out Tolka Park in 2000.
This might have had some chance to get off the ground if they had added clubs from half a dozen big cities, fan bases or with money behind them to join as well. If Benfica, Zenit, Ajax, Shaktar, Galatasaray and Marseille along with PSG and the big Dutch clubs were all part of it then it would look far less like complete money grab if you had 20+ clubs from all around Europe
No one in this has footballs best interests at heart.
UEFA trying to expand the CL so they can milk it for all its worth. FIFA trying to get their taste. The Premier League lads wanting to stay on the gravy train. The 6 clubs looking to take all the gravy train for themselves. Money money money
I’d imagine they plan on inviting some of them into the 20. They just don’t want them to have any power
Rte had the chairman of the Kildare branch of the Liverpool supports club on just there.
He said foreigners have ruined the game and confirmed he’d continue to support the club
7 clubs from 3 cities is not a great base.
In fairness to UEFA they’ve expanded the CL to try to appease these clubs rather than for their own benefit
Is that true? More games equals more money.
Yeah and that in itself is disappointing. If they had gotten 20 teams on a pan European basis and given them all somewhat equal footing it would have given it a thin veneer of credibility compared to the complete money grab they are going for.
Benfica want in apparently.
The no relegation for the founding 15 is nearly the worst of it for me. If nothing else, half the teams would have nothing to play for half way though the season
I bet they do and it makes sense to have clubs from big cities in it as they have so much room for growth as teams if they had anything close to the financial backing of the super 12
Celtic/rangers would have been obvious candidates.
I’ve called on all Liverpool supporters to boycott home games for the remainder of the season.
The other five would be cannon fodder because there would be relegation or deselection or whatever you’d call it for them and the financial rules for them would be different. So they would be the equivalent of CFR Cluj.
You would need a play-off system and presumably given the American influence they would be letting 12 of the 20 qualify, not least to avoid dead rubber games. And thus creating an entire season of dead rubbers.
I wouldn’t agree. There is enough British clubs in it as it is. Lisbon, Amsterdam, St Petersburg/Moscow and Istanbul all have teams in their cities which are of better quality and are far bigger cities
