The mafia model
correct.
Powerful stuff.
I don’t see what the big deal is ,The Game is gone years , this is just the next step …
It’s all about the brand though, they’ve spent years and and many millions developing the their brands throughout the world, the stadium and the fans mean nothing in comparison, imagine how long it would take and how much money it would cost to build shamrock rovers into a world wide brand
Liverpool and united had already established world wide brands that were organic given their history. They’ve been developed and maintained.
City developed one by buying a club in every country
Here’s the thing. Yesterday I posted a up a hypothetical idea for four divisions of 20 clubs each with promotion and relegation. You could have promotion and relegation from those leagues to various national leagues and theoretically keep the pyramid intact. You could actually make a case for a European Super League like that. It would be exciting, of a high standard, and there would be jeopardy.
But that’s not what this is. This is a cosy cartel which would in result years after years of soulless, sterile, repetitive, meaningless football and scorch everything in its path, including the clubs involved themselves. It would result in many lower division clubs throughout Europe going to the wall and the effective crippling of football as a sport and a community activity.
It’s greed … they want to benefit to the tune of about 400m a year and still compete in their domestic leagues … They want all the top players, all the revenue and at no risk to themselves and they wont need local or working class fans at all. It will be TV money and tourists and corporates at games. We all know what direction football has been headed and it’s lopsided as is, but this is the death of the game altogether. If owners pull this off then they can do what they want.
There fuckers do as they like. They’ll row back if it suits them.
@BruidheanChaorthainn inviting celtic and rangers might be interesting for the UK and Ireland Market but no one else would give a fuck really. Its not about bums on seats for these clubs anymore its about TV rights in Asia and the US and attracting massive sponsors for the global audience it would generate.
Have these clubs been kicked out of their leagues yet? What’s the hold up?
Everton are the peoples club.
It will be interesting to see what players and managers will have the integrity to part ways with those 12 clubs if the plans go through.
It’s only them that have the power to stop it. Hopefully when these clubs do go off, that will bring about a greater balance in the rest of Europe.
To only “fans” who seem to keen on the idea are football fans in Kuala Lumpur, Ratoath and Africa and the likes.
I can see Harry Kane walking away and joining Everton.
The 6 clubs should be nationalised.
People need to knock this argument about “oh but they formed the Premier League 30 years ago so they can hardly complain now” argument on the head quicksmart.
It’s a fair argument to say the formation of the Premier League was based on greed, of course it was, it’s a fair argument to say it was a bad thing for football. To me, on the whole, it was a negative for the game.
But the formation of the Premier League and the formation of this are incomparable. The Premier League was the old English First Division, it just changed some of the rules of how it was governed to benefit the more successful clubs more. It did not remove jeopardy and it did not destroy the football pyramid and it did not create a cartel.
This does all of those things.
It did though
Are you some kind of header? You want the fans and the cities these clubs are based in to lose their club because the owners are greedy? You want contracted players to walk away from their jobs and presumably not play again due to breach of contract?? - They need to fight it alright but stop being a child. You want to punish ordinary fans every more then the super league would. You nazi.
It’s all getting a bit too much for @Thomas_Brady .
I will say Tom that any fan that supports this deserves to lose their club. Compare the reaction of Man City fans to the changes at their club to the reaction of the West Ham fans. At the time I thought they were idiots but the West Ham fans will be proved right. They will be rewarded by still having a club in 25 years time and Man City will be gone to Dubai.
Off with them to their little rich boys play den.
You lads have been happy to sing the praises of your Wall Street promissory notes.
