European Super League Super Thread

The days Irish teams were getting to European Quarter finals would be the logical thing an Irish person worried about elitism in football should say

It won’t change much for me as a fan anyway I’ll still have to fly to every game.

The reason the current Champions League works well is because “less is more” and the knockout nature of it.

You have to wait a whole year to see Mbappe, Kroos, Messi and co strut their stuff on the big stage for a few weeks.

Ewan will be livid (but not surprised, he probably warned against it) when he finds out

Sure the premier league wasn’t really a breakaway. It operated almost exactly the same as the old first division and remained intrinsically linked to the football league. This sounds like something totally different in fairness

Will there be a draft?

Ewan is a Chelsea fan. Chelsea are in so he should be happy.

I thought Ewan supported Glasgow Rangers

I’m not sure what it’s dreary in relation to. As far as I can see its probably the most entertaining and open annual sporting competition there is played for by massive clubs in front of packed stadiums and with all the best players. It’s far from perfect but sure what sporting competition is more exciting or competitive?

Sean Dyche’s Burnley ended Liverpool’s 70 odd unbeaten run at Anfield a few weeks back. That’s the type of result you get in the English league that you don’t get in those one or two team hipster leagues that you follow.

I hope all clubs who signed this stripped of all points this season and relegated for this. Will the EFL accept these teams or send them to the national league?

None of that will happen unfortunately. Football is a very skck dog with debt money or dirty money.

I have made comparisons with rugby too, which is on the same path and a far less worldwide appeal

This is clearly a ploy to try and take some of the publicity away from the GAA’s Championship draw in the morning.

Cunts.

The gaa wouldn’t come up with a structure as bad as this.

I know our very own Celtic are 1967 European Champions and reached the UEFA Cup final in 2003 but when did any of the other Irish clubs reach the quarter-finals of a European club competition? We appear to have had our best run of results in European comps for the guts of 15-20 years (since Shels drew with Deportivo in Lansdowne in 2004).

Citeh are signed up.

The hurling league has operated on a similar basis for decades

Super 8s is almost as bad

You don’t get underdogs winning games in other leagues? Again, you should do some more research

You’ve also defeated your own point by pointing out that Liverpool had a 70 game unbeaten run

We need an end to facile non-contests like Liverpool v Burnley, Liverpool v Brighton and Liverpool v Fulham. I’m sick of seeing us always get beaten in them.
