Liam Irwin wrote about that for the Olde Limerick Journal, a relative of his perished there.
There was something on RTE about it some years back but I donā€™t see it online, it was an awful story

Iā€™ve chatted to Liam about itā€¦ My great-grandfather and granduncle were in it but got out. Made the British news at the time, was a worldwide story

Same story in Loughill where the official signposts say Loghill.

There plenty of instances of this around the country. Something about using the spellings on the ordinance survey maps. Iā€™ve seen Puckane and Toomevara spelled variously on different roads signs.

Murroe vs Moroeā€¦ Itā€™s all the based on the Brits trying to figure out what we were saying anyways.
