Exams

I was disappointed with how my exam went. In hindsight I should have gone at my prep differently and I blanked on a couple of questions I knew. Had it passed before going in because the course work had gone well, but had hoped to give the exam a better shot.

I’ve another one next Saturday but I’d expect that to go well as I’d be much more comfortable with the module content.

What are you studying that is based on Ted talks do you mind me asking?

You would occassionally be asked to watch a ted talk, amongst other videos. Was studying school leadership.

I have huge admiration for people like you who work full time and then further their studies as as well. Once I was finished third level, I said fuck it that’s it and the next time I saw the inside of any kind of educational institution was when my daughter started school

i am the exact same as you described above -but for some reason now ive embarked on this course -i dont think it was my son starting school last year had any awakening in me per se, and whilst any post grad is beneficial for progression in my currrent role i could probably mosey along till my mid 50’s in clover id say and its not needed,
however for me its not enough- i like to evolve as a person both emotionally, professionally and also thru interactions with family members and the wider community - its a mindset thing maybe but i feel its also something i cant really control- stagnation would be a horrible thing for me - whilst i can see the benifits of stability as a soul id rot … maybe

yeah , im usually on the road by seven 15 or so for work and with getting the wife and kids out in the morning the early one is non runner i think - it would certainly add a bit of stress to the eco system in the house that im not sure i want i entertain for now anyhow.
i try to do this w/o working on it at the weekend, save for this one as i have this godforsaken paper to get in

Part of me just died inside seeing this again

youre talking to a lad who failed in oz FFS

Who the fuck would want to succeed in that shithole.

nobody, but even less would, or could, fail there

Plenty of Irish failing out there surely? @Fitzy for one looks in a hape of shite at this stage.

I still have nightmares about exams. The same recurring nightmare actually that I haven’t done any work for a major maths exam which has suddenly assumed an overwhelming and deeply uneasy significance in life. :grimacing:

@mickee321 had a 3 hour workshop last night on my industry research paper. It basically what they call a literature review and needs to be 6 to 8 pages in IEEE format. Seems to be a lot of hassle and I’ve never done anything like this before.

Hard to know what’s expected really.

I wish you the best with your exams treaty.

yeah - look these can be very time consuming and the format is intimidating
have you chosen your subject yet?
this is key- if its something you are familiar with or even work with it will be a lot easier - you can get lost almost at times choosing a subject matter
Then go and download from IEEE or other technical forum maybe 10 /15 papers on the subject - have a read them , summarize the main points and then build out your paper
now - i typed mine up first and then pasted it into the format - i think i had about 15 pages font 11 with a few graphs ( IV curves, breakdown voltages, etc) -
ensure also to document your references - the quality of your prose is also key - ensure it is spot on , no waffle , technical and to the point
but yeah - get your papers first, map it out and then just type it up really

  • your abstract and conclusions are key

I’ve no topic yet beyond a few vague general ideas.
The guy giving the workshop last night was good in fairness, pretty much exactly what you said above.
I don’t need to have it done until June, but do need to have the outline draft in by the middle of February.
