Farewell Trapp

I wouldn’t go on anything people you meet say to be quite honest.

Why? By all accounts he is a gentlemen. Every player that has deserved a chance has got a chance most of them not living up to the expectations for them while the much maligned Paul Green goes quietly about his business and has been one of our best performers lately.

If we’d had Andy Reid, Stephen Ireland, Wes Hoolahan, Conor Clifford and Darron Gibson playing in the centre of midfield in a 3-5-2 formation we would have won the World Cup. Everybody knows that.
He’s left us in a terrible state with team morale at an all time low. But he’ll be enjoying his retirement in Italy’s premiere Alzheimer’s clinic when the FAI goes bankrupt in a few years.

The highlight of his tenure was undoubtedly the qualification for the Euros. But we struggled to get out off a pathetically weak group and were blessed to get Estonia in the play offs. We made an absolute show of ourselves out there as this dinosaur was exposed for what he was.

He should have walked then. But he knew he’d never get such a well paid part time gig again. He then predictably served up one of our worst qualifying performances ever.

He leaves us in the gutter, good riddance to him.
One of the most ridiculous posts I have seen on here.

We are not fucking Brazil. We have no world class players or even near it. When you compare us to Wales, who have arguably a better team and they haven’t come within an arse’s roar of a tournament for a good few years.

He had 3 qualifying campaigns. Got to a play off in one (and were very unlucky to go out), qualified for the next one. Ok - the last one wasn’t great. Neither were the Euros.

But to dismiss all that is just completely ridiculous.

“wasn’t great”??

I’m not arsed arguing about the legacy of a manager who’s now history but this campaign has been shambolic and the Euros were pathetic, even if the opposition was very very difficult. If we produced a single moment of play worthy of the highlights bit on Reeling in the Years 2012 I can’t think of one.

I didn’t dismiss all of it. Maybe you didn’t read the post properly.

He should have gone after the Euros. I said as much at the time.

He should have, but to be fair to him, for what he’d achieved, another campaign was his due reward. Even I couldn’t argue about that.

Aside from Sledge’s goal they’ll have fuck all else. They’ll show the singing and the Poles singing how much they love us because we provided their economy with a bonanza.
Embarrassing.
Possibly the race between @Rocko and @gerrardno1 too.

Nobody seems to remember the home friendly victory against Bosnia. What a day that was.

Just watching Green Is The Colour here.

Trap was commenting on when he was offered the job. He said ‘I hope you’re not offering me the job because I was born on St Patrick’s Day. I am not a saint. I am just Giovanni.’

+1

sandymount road was the type of cunt that wanted McCarthy sacked after losing to Russia in Russia

If I remember correctly McCarthy picking Ian Harte was one of the main reasons Sandymount Road wanted McCarthy sacked yet after Harte scored a few free kicks for Doncaster Rovers,Trapp not picking Harte was one of the main reasons he wanted Trapp sacked. You couldnt make it up

He guided us toour lowest world ranking of 59th. Not even Staunton achieved that.

Given the situation he started with and the players he had to work with, Trapattoni did very well, but he clearly should have walked after the Euro’s (and Delaney should have had the balls to tap him then). There’s a good record there for the first four years. But communication and perception are important things in international football, whether you like it or not and the perception of Trap as a poor communicator to his players, the media and the Irish football community would always work against him. Whether it was a lack of ability to communicate or a lack of interest in his part to engage with the supporters or players is debatable, but it was always going to be his handicap. By all accounts, he is a very decent man and his track record in the game is astonishing. The thing I could never understand, is that I assumed when he was brought into the job, one of the reasons would be that he would introduce a technically better style of play, we would be more organised and become a good counter attacking team, like what Chewie said in his (very good) post earlier about what we should strive to become. But we eventually regressed to the most basic type of football that was laid bare at the Euro’s. And that is the biggest failing.

O’Neill will clearly be a good appointment, the expanded 24 team Euro will be a big boost to him hopefully. He’ll obviously need time, but we do have a big issue now in slipping down seeding placings which makes things harder and harder.

Thank you Mr Trapattoni, we wish you well, we just wish it could have been much earlier.

What did Staunton achieve?

tripe mate, Denis O’Brien paid his salary,INM were fighting Denis O’Brien so had an agenda against Trapp

by the time O’Brien got control of media it was too late for a Volteface from INM about Trapp

the fact that dullards such as Thraw & Sandymount Road views on Irish football were basically shaped in the boardroom of INM is another story

Never read the Indo and wasn’t a member on here when Big Mick was manager. So try and come up with some better lies when you are posting shite on here please.

You and the rest of the pro-Trap brigade have been badly shown up here. You’ve made a show of yourselves backing him to the hilt.
