FIFA World Cup 2026 - North America

You have to feel the Egyptians are embarrassing themselves now. They played well, they should be leaving with their dignity intact.

Ronnie O’Sullivan (France) - frightening, will win if they want to
v
Ding Junhui (Morocco) - the hope of the new world - classy and skilful but do they have the mentality, probably not

Shaun Murphy (Spain) - extremely talented and stylish on the ball, has one world title and several other major titles, is as good as anybody when on form but you’re not confident in their ability to close it out in the big one
v
Neil Robertson (Belgium) - talented under achievers who often seem apathetic and usually go out early, but maybe this time it’s different? Nah.

Mark Selby (England) - the designated villain who people secretly desperately want to remain in the tournament. Manager Tuchel has the same shit eating grin as the Jester from Leicester.
v
Luca Brecel (Norway) - a dangerous European raider who have come out of nowhere and will probably never challenge again, but on this one occasion, they are contenders

John Higgins (Argentina) - a true champion, love a comeback, some people say they are getting favourable treatment from the organisers and that they are cheats, loved by Fenians
v
Graeme Dott (Switzerland) - please fuck off

Eliminated:
USA - Judd Trump - they seem alright and it’s not they’re fault their saddled with the name Trump, but they’re Trump
Colombia - Mark Allen - missed the key ball off the spot
Brazil - Stephen Hendry - all those titles are now but a distant memory
Mexico - Jack Lisowski - very likeable but have a loser mentality
Egypt - Barry Hawkins - likeable, suffered an agonising defeat in 2026 after looking set for victory
Ireland - Ken Doherty - good in the 90s, loved a comeback, now only involved on the commentary side
Holland - Jimmy White - specialists at losing finals
Portugal - Matthew Stevens - talented but utterly gutless and delinquent mentality
Paraguay - Michael White - violent
Scotland - Tony Drago - great craic but shit
Iran - Hossein Vafaei - gave a great account of themselves and went out with honour, so unlucky
Uruguay - Mark Williams - a historic great who can still rattle the big guns, but not this year
Italy - Alex Higgins - won in 1982, now dead

Colombia must be massively disappointed with themselves, didn’t do themselves justice. They are better than Switzerland but didn’t have enough of a go.

It’s a bit annoying that the Belgians are still there after stinking the place out early on.

Is Messi the worst penalty taker among good players ever? Seems to have missed an inordinate amount of them in big games. I suppose if he wasn’t Messi he would be just taken off them.

All Argentine officiating team for France vs Morocco; nothing to see here

He must be. Obviously nobody’s at Messi’s level but Larsson missed a relatively high number of penalties for Celtic. It used to baffle me somewhat when you’d see him producing all manner of outstanding finishes out of the keeper’s reach - drives, flicks, dinks, chips, slots, curlers, angled shots to name several - yet he’d often just kick a penalty a yard or two either side of centre & goalies would palm it away like Messi’s yesterday.

CR7 himself missed one in a UCL final.

There was a good Argentinian Riquelme who was crap at them as well.

Emboldened by Trump.

The whole Messi/Ronaldo/Qatar/Saudi/Johnny Infantino/Trump/Milei big house winning again.

Amd lads think powerful people cant influence outcomes of sporting events.

Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola, and Manu Koné are the three France players who will be suspended for the 2026 World Cup semi-final if they pick up a yellow card in the quarter-final against Morocco

Off to the bookies I go

Olise is a cert.

Twitter is full of yanks saying give an NFL guy 6 months and he’d beat Messi’s ass at that kids game

twitter is also full of idiots.

They’re right in the sense that the NFL and NBA fellas are unbelievable athletes, but they’re just sour after getting hockeyed.

If America ever does get soccer right, we are all fucked, it would be like the France team on steroids.

Americans aren’t inherently better at sports than anyone else. In baseball, the best player is Japanese, in basketball most of the best players are from outside the US now, American Football is full of lads from other countries who played other sports and took it up in their late teens or twenties. These are the major US sports

Americans dont have the same social outlook on sports we do. As in most sports are run through schools and then colleges. They probably alienate a lof of their population this way… America is about elitism and business when it comes to sport.
