Nonsense. The Empire is a thing of the past. The majority impacted are dead and gone. It’s a ridiculous suggestion, akin to reparations for slavery in the US.
These are grown up countries who are in the main governing themselves. They don’t need to be treated like children. It is their decision to stay apart of it.
Pretty much all those impacted by British colonisation of current 26 county Ireland are dead and gone. Therefore by your argument, it’s a ridiculous suggestion that people from 26 county Ireland should have rights to live and work in non-EU Britain the same as if they were British citizens.
My point is that all that’s needed to become a United Ireland is a border referendum on both sides showing more than 50% in favour. If joining the commonwealth in the aftermath is a step which would help to bring about peace then fair enough, but Unionists aren’t going to vote for a United Ireland whether we join the commonwealth or not so its pointless until then
Ireland has a CTA with the U.K. for numerous reasons. A “make up” for colonialism is not on that list and is actually insulting to Ireland suggesting it.
