But Count you seem to think you know it all anyway, don’t know why you bother asking. I’d say you’re hard to coach.[/quote]
Kev TFK AFC have our last game of the season today. Mild winter meant there were no postponements and so we have a 5 week gap before next season. I’m going to give the lads 2 weeks off before we regroup, should they be doing anything other than light jogs and stretches in that time (bar Bandage who will be on the exercise bike for groin strain reasons and Dex who is hospital bound)?
First and foremost the club need to treat the team to a good blow out. A night of free booze and kebabs will work wonders for team moral. A 5 week break should not see fitness levels dissipate too much so getting a yoga instructor in for the lads would be what I’d recommend if I was Kev.
Count and quite a few others continually ignore my qualified 15 years of experience advice. And the advice of one or two others who have an idea about what they are talking about.
I read back a few pages of this thread the other day and it’s simply laughable what guys are still doing.
I only deal with athletes, not the general population playing mini games.

here’s the issue caoimhaoin, you give me advice, I then go to my club training session and listen to my coach, who gives different advice ( yes, he is not a 15 year experienced S&C coach) but as it’s a team session im not going to give out.
so how does one win?
You do your weight sessions as a team? You have put up what you did in the gym and it was stuff you had been advised not to do.
I certainly would not tell a coach he’s wrong based on what some guy says on the Internet. But there should be enough there for you to investigate and find out some more. There are so many bluffers out there it’s hard to know what to believe. But most good coaches know their own limitations and are open with their players. Many are very good football coaches and know the game well nut just bull shit or ignore the conditioning side.
Do your own research, then if you have balls challenge the guy if you think it’s shit. Or go tothe club chairman and tell him you think it’s shit or discuss with captain or others. Or wIt till end of the year and bring it up at agm and have a proper discussion on it.
Also Count, many coaches don’t evolve ad stick to what worked before.
On the other hand, there are many ways to train a team well. He may have a different way.
And finally, is he an S&C or a fitness coach or a personal trainer or PE teacher or an army trainer for 15 years? they all come from different mindsets.
Hi Mr Chairman, I think our S&C coach is wrong cos some lad I know off the internet based in Western Australia who may or may not have anger management issues but is a confident guy said so.
I can see the Jimmies lads taking that one well alright.

The likes of Kev and Cian O’Neill are changing the way GAA teams think so less of your lip
This S&C stuff is all a fad anyway. Surprised a learned man like yourself would be falling for it.

You are retarded
They didn’t have any of this lark years ago and they still hurled after a day down the bog… If anyone is a qualified S&C coach around here it is MBB who often ran striaght from the bog after hours of cutting turf, onto the pitch, scored 14 goals, ran back to the bog and finished the last load and then down to the local and swamped 15 pints only to get up the next day and do it all again. They don’t make em like that any more

Our coach at present has a fitness training background we’ve had both army man and PE teacher in the past.
Generally copy inter county weights program, and do them with club based inter county players, who would instruct me on the proper technique and form.
You are obviously a little out of touch re the rural Gaa scene, Chairmen are far more concerned with money than with players. They still want success but feel that lads should be “ran the shite out of” it’s a different generation.
There’s always going to be differences of opinion about how to get players fitter and stronger but if they are able to play football these things matter a little less.
I feel clubs are becoming far too concerned with conditioning and are turning their backs on the skills this is the “coaching” aspect of the game which is most important, to develop a players skill level.
I was more for stopping a lad getting 15 goals ad never cut a sod of turf in me life but thanks anyway mousy
