I recall some sort of Fleadh in Mohill around 15 years ago. An absolutely mighty weekend.

Fleadh and spraoí are mighty words.

There are connotations attached to a fleadh that you don’t get with a plain old festival or celebration.

Spraoi sounds much more fun than plain old fun.

Similar with the word hooley. You’d much rather have a hooley than whatever the alternative foreign words are.

You’d rather go on a session than on a bender or on the piss. Session sounds mighty. On a bender or on the piss sound menacing and unpleasant.

We in Ireland have the best words in the world for things that are fun.
