GAA All Star Wars

There’s no show like a Joe show.

As long as the hurling intelligentsia know that’s all that counts

Canning finally gets justice for being robbed of his award in 2012.

It really shows the level of insight of lads like @bandage and the likes that think Canning shouldn’t get it because he didn’t do enough “flashy stuff” for them.

I agree. Awards are a pile of cock really.

Thats it really. I woudnt begrudge Joe winning it and there have been less deserving winners than him. If it was on the basis of being the best performer of the year, Barron should win it. But it often isnt and it could be a case of him getting it as farmer says for his work over a number of years. A load of shite really, but thats the way it is.

Canning will not be beaten, he is putting in a massive shift down at the ploughing today.

Lads really shouldn’t get that worked up about, much like MOTM. Its all a cod.

When Brian Whelehan didnt get the All Star but got the HOTY, you know the system is broke. And then when you give the manager MOTM in an AI final, you may as well move on and forget about these things. Never mind picking a “footballer” who cant football.

Noel won the battle but Conor still managed to score 1 and create 3

What weighting is given to the ability to churn out a decent Pad Thai Noodles in deciding HOTY ?

Its changed since then though. The players themselves vote for the Player of the Year

And players will probably tend to recognise the effort put in by the likes of Canning and Moran to their county over the years, as opposed to just limiting it to this year

but thats just it. The vote wont actually be on who was the best hurler of the year. Its essentially a popularity contest mixed with an award for contribution to your county type set up. It’s nothing to take as seriously as the muldoons from Tipp who went apeshit over Callinan not getting the award last year. If Canning wins it, so be it. Barron deserves the hurler of 2017 award but it doesnt really work like that.

Similar to the football. Andy Moran has had a good year, but a lot of it is due to his overall contribution to Mayo. Similar to Cluxton. What the fuck has Cluxton done this year to make him the most outstanding footballer that played? Yet he is among the favourites to win it?

Cluxton at least lifted a cup this year. The first man to lift it 3 in a row. And the first to lift it 4 times

Just saying like :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

We’re ultimately in agreement for a nice change

no

Did Tommy Walsh ever win HOTY?

2009 i think

He kicked the ball out to his corner backs when the opposition had retreated. When they didn’t he generally kicked it long and was accurate enough dong so.

Revolutionary.

except in the final on Sunday when he kicked it long 8 times and the opposition won it 6 times.

Should rename it the lifetime achievement award.

Strangely phrased sentence.

Moran’s “overall contribution” to Mayo this year is that he was outstandingly good.

See below reason why these awards are fundamental to the organisation
