GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

Huh?

The delay tactic while you try to dedress the idiotic comment you made.

You are a busted flush

Apropos of nothing, can we get a definitive list of players of the same names who have played for different counties?

Eamon/n Burns - Derry and Down
Paul Flynn - Waterford hurling/Dublin football
Tommy Walsh - Kilkenny hurling/Kerry football
Paul Murphy - Kilkenny hurling/Kerry football

I’m still waiting for you to explain what was idiotic about it. I’m a bit baffled to be honest.

Is winning a club All Ireland with the best club team over the past 20 years a big deal. Different story for Kernan who brought them from nothing.

Eoin Bradley - Derry and Tyrone
Michael Murphy - Donegal and Tyrone

Michael Coleman - Galway hurling/Tyrone football
Michael Quinn - Leitrim football/Longford football
Michael Walsh - Kilkenny hurling/Down football
Liam Doyle - Clare hurling/Down football

Kieran Hughes - Armagh and Monaghan

John O’Brien - Tipperary hurling/Louth football
Ray/Raymie Ryan - Cork hurling/Tipperary hurling
Paddy O’Rourke - Down football/Meath football

Seanie Johnston - Cavan football/Kildare football

Eoin Kelly - Waterford/Tipp

Yes it is a big deal. They turned over quite a few players. They also played some blinding football doing it. Winning any All Ireland is a huge achievement. And while Cross can adapt generally to be right later in the year (so can a few other teams) they still have to prepare, go out there and do it. And they have to perform.

Not to mention the job of creating hunger in the players after so much success.

Your statement is unbelievably stupid.

Brilliant

He still had a nucleus of a team that had All Irelands to their name - the Kernans, McConville, Hearty. He had a host of young lads who had intercounty experience at senior level in players like McKeown, McKenna, Carragher, Clarke etc not to mention youngsters coming through.

The majority of the Cross team have played senior at Armagh at some stage. It’s just a really well run club with great underage structures and they are very good at retaining these players.

I don’t think there was anything special with what McEntee did there. They are comfortably one of the best clubs in the country, he inherited a great squad and has success with them. There is that expectation there with Cross every year.

Do cross have serious financial backing like some dublin clubs? How do they keep the younger lads around?

Agreed - Cross are a very self motivated bunch who just needed steering and topping up.
Brigids while winning the Dublin championship two years ago have since gone backwards at a rate of knots. I think they’ve only won four league games under McEntee this year, with Paddy Andrews the only real absentee by being involved with Dublin set up.

They have very little coming through underage so it was up to McEntee with the current crop to re-energise and improve them where in fact he has done the opposite.

Hie newspaper articles and TV appearances would lead you to believe he has some sort of insight to the game and patterns that others don’t see but is usually in fact waffle.

Not really, it’s just a really tight community in that sense. It would have a decent area to pick from including contrast to other clubs. Only the two city clubs could match them in terms of numbers. Clubs in Lurgan and North Armagh would lose out to soccer quite a bit.

Can we get a list of club All-Ireland winning managers over the last 20 years or so and what they’ve gone on to achieve?

Have any of ye lads ever actually been involved with a winning team in a coaching aspect?

In fact, have ye ever even been involved with a team full stop?

They already ACHIEVED.
