GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

It was an exaggeration obviously.

I knew he played a teasonable level, did not know it was there though.

What’s nonsense?

In fairness to joe, i may have been a bit harsh on his hurling abilities. He would have won a few underage county finals and possibly a leinster colleges medal.

I think i can guess your profession

Oooft

I doubt it. I deleted that post. Should have kept my counsel. I barely knew the lad

Fair enough.

That anyone can make an prediction on a lads ability or involvement at 17.

Jason Ryan taking over the Wicklow footballers

Like Shane Long???

Exactly

The first step will have to be a peace and reconciliation committee

Que?

You might not be aware but there is a long tradition or erm shall we say keen inter club rivalry in Wickla .

All Micko needed was to sit down and have a cup of tea with them and twas all grand.

Micko has a slightly bigger reputation than Jason (, no disrespect to Jason ).

He could bring Micko in as a consultant. Micko loves to drive.

An ex-wickow footballerexplained it to me as east wicklow on the sea, west wickow on the other side of the mountains and a separate group down south. None of the three groups pull together.

The carlow side is more hurling and a small bit in the south.

It doesn’t help that 2 of their main towns are absolute shitholes with strong soccer and rugby clubs.

Wicklow GAA is in bits.
It might be a slight exaggeration to say they’ve a 15 as good not togging for them for various reasons, but it wouldn’t be unfair to say they’ve 10 or so missing that could contribute. Magee lost a load of lads over the last few years.
There’s no money, no interest and the club game is only kept going by the kind of hatred that isn’t good for team building at intercounty level and very lopsided (the role of honour for the last 30 years is basically Rathnew (14) and Baltinglass (10), with St. Pats winning 3 in recent years.
They are doing good work underage in a few places but it’s hit and miss. They aren’t getting near enough out of Brayruit, Greystones and Arklow considering the size of the places.
They got Gilroy in to do a root and branch review of the whole structure of Wicklow GAA earlier this year but I haven’t heard anything on it since.
