GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

he hurls the man and not the ball, all the time

Ah but we had Donie though…

that’s been established

Who was the happier at the end of the 2007 All-Ireland semi-final, mate

Limerick or Waterford

Each had won one game against each other in the championship

happiness index is now a measure of success?

who was sadder after the AI final in 2007?

We saw the year after.

Kilkenny. They were fucking delighted. btw

Sorry pal. They got Shaughed as well.

There is a massive context in that statement which you have failed to mention.

Waterford won the Munster Championship in 2002 for the first time in many years. Historically the Munster hurling championship is very difficult to win and is of a high quality.

Connelly and Holmes won the Connacht Title coming after five straight wins for Mayo of the championship under James Horan.

There are many Mayo fans that will realise that Rochford was extremely lucky in the early rounds of qualifiers not to get knocked out, and ultimately bemoan his lack of Connacht success.

Different question. Answer to that is Limerick. However, if you asked would you rather a munster final medal or an ireland loss that year, waterford players would say the former.

You never answered the question

If anybody in Limerick had a choice of winning the 2007 Munster final or the 2007 All-Ireland semi-final, which would they have taken

Which was the better game to win between the 2005 Tyrone-Armagh Ulster final and the 2005 Tyrone-Armagh All-Ireland semi-final

Not true, Limerick dominated the opening 25 minutes of that game and hurled at an insane pace which Wford were blown away by and were 9-10 pts ahead at that stage. The game was effectively won inside that opening quarter where if anything Waterford should have been razor sharp in the opening exchanges with two tough games against Cork under the belt.

of course the semi final. That absolutely does not devalue a Munster medal in any way shape or form. It is the nature of competitive sports.

I’m all about context, mate

That’s why I mentioned Gerald McCarthy taking Waterford out of the doldrums after 35 years and Michael Ryan not reaching an All-Ireland semi-final after Waterford had reached six of them in a row

It’s why I mentioned Justin McCarthy’s consistent failure in All-Ireland semi-finals

The other bozo is the guy you should be talking to about context, because he’s the man that puts a context-free premium on titles, even titles that don’t mean a fuck

The Makita International tournament was a title

The O’Byrne Cup is a title

Delayed by 12 months

Checkmate

Fucking sure it devalues it

Ask Offaly if they give a fuck about having lost the 1998 Leinster final to Kilkenny given they turned around and smashed them in the All-Ireland

Ask Kerry if they care about not winning the 2009 Munster football title to Cork given they turned around and beat Cork in the All-Ireland

But you are wrong about Mayo.

Rochford got the push in the end. Many would say that his sacking was more justifiable than what happened to Connelly and Holmes.

Wow

You’re now saying that Connelly and Holmes were more successful than Rochford

Ask anybody in Mayo, especially the team, whether they think that’s the case

Rochford walked because he was being messed around by the county board

He did an excellent job in Mayo and was blaggarded out by GAA politicians on a power trip - the guy running the Mayo county board is Noel Connelly’s brother, who resented Rochford because he replaced his brother

Small wonder Donegal look so good this year with Rochford now involved

Go way will you - you haven’t a clue.

Dunning-Krueger 101 here from you

Clueless indeed
