Oh great, another advantage for Dublin.
Fall in ta fuck
Brolly’s suggestion is hardly workable, small pot for a lot of rural clubs to dip into in their own parish for a manager year after year
Wouldn’t matter either way with them tbf.
Exactly, there are only a handful of lads in most rural clubs. They often work together as a team then clubs are left in a limbo.
That is the reality though I find myself agreeing with some of Brolly’s article as well, however his ultimate solution isnt workable
The game is gone … lads worrying about the Dubs yet fcukall lads will touch a senior club team without getting a few Bob… a sad state of affairs that should have been addressed before it ever really took off … grass roots gaa is for mercenaries…
Pretty sure there’s be outside managers coming into clubs nearly since the inception of the association. Obviously the current merry go round is a bit obnoxious but I don’t know how you stop it. Brolly’s suggestion isn’t terrible and with a bit of tweaking it could be workable and slow the wheel a bit. It’s sucking some money out of the association.
I think a more workable solution would be to make clubs account for paying the manager properly in their books and let revenue get involved. Would quench the appetite of a lot of fellas
They’ll just find a way to declare a certain amount and pay the rest in cash … it’s awful it’s come to this
They would. There is no way to fix it really. A good start would be for the GAA to assemble centrally a list of bluffers and send it to the clubs
Brolly’s suggestion is hardly workable,
Show me one of his ideas that are actually workable. Joe is as deluded as Seán Quinn.
If it’s not possible to stop managers being paid under the counter and tax free how are any self employed people paying tax at all?
Brolly is the same as David McWilliams, clearly intelligent and both have ideas which sound great when you first hear them but dissolve on contact with reality.
Both are also well aware of this, but know that the simple idea that stands no scrutiny is more box office than a boring well thought out idea.
Both are enjoyable once you understand this. Brolly can be nasty of late though
Shur any half decent self employed man will only declare half of what they are earning to the Tax man.
Eg. A barber who has 100 customers a week will tell the Tax man he’s cutting 50 peoples hair per week.
I remember we were paying a lad £500 back in 2000 to manage the club.A pure waste of money.
Its not about being right or wrong.
Its about taking a position, creating debate and digging in.
Its TFK in a nutshell.
I’d imagine so but this is fellas getting paid relatively big money when the person paying them is not allowed pay people at all for the job they are doing and they are not allowed receive payment. Would stopping or drastically cutting the amount managers pay for expenses not stop it? Either that or allow payments to managers
I remember we were paying a lad £500 back in 2000 to manage the club.A pure waste of money.
Manor paying a lad £500 a year and disgruntled clubman is giving out….
I would imagine most of these big money managers are paid totally outside of the Clubs Accounts by some wealthy local/group of locals/rich fella from America with local connections/bank robbery etc. All totally separate to the Clubs Balance sheet.
I doubt any clubs put their lotto/club fundraising monies into a management team but maybe I’m very naive.
