GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

University lecturing would hardly be the most time consuming task. Most of them in my time were double jobbing anyway doing consultancy work on the side

O’Shea is managing several multi-million euro research projects that he secured the funding for. I think it would be pretty time consuming alright.

Bonnar

Make it happen please

Not a hope Mac, sure he couldn’t improve Cashel King Cormac’s this year and they all fucking idolise him.

Great Hurler but not managerial material imo.

Any Tipp club managers making waves? Any ex-players an option beyond Hogan?

John Sheedy with North champions Portroe.

Liam Cahill was highly thought of with Clonoulty Rossmore too.

Other than that not a whole pile standing out tbh.

Time for the Tipp County Board to stock up on clipboards.
Bonnar is your man.

first question for the new manager - are they going to prepare the panel for next year’s hurling championship or will they continue the efforts which are well underway to take the old Limerick title of best drinking squad?

second question - will they prepare with hurleys or slashooks for self-defence?

third question - will they confine socialising to rural Tipp pubs or try to make it down the road to Limerick again?

I suppose we should be getting a good few All Stars this year considering we won Munster using Slash hooks heavily under the influence.

mate- i dont think Galway is considered a university

Cork have been the best football team in the country IMO for the last 3-4 years and it is a shame they haven’t at least another All-Ireland to show for it. I wouldn’t be writing them off just yet though, but it is time for a new voice. Counihan has brought them as far as he can. I was going to say the same thing Kev said, Ciaran Sheehan for centre back. I think they still have another All-Ireland in them and will be the main contender again next year to Donegal.

Regarding the Tip situation, Ken Hogan would appear the best candidate but it is very rare in the GAA for managers to take up their old jobs again further down the line, much rarer where he was considered a flop/disaster the first time around. What was it Bonnar said while he was at Wexford, possibly after his last game in charge? I remember Bandage posting about it at the time and i found it very humourous.

Bonnar gets too much recognition for his success with WIT.

A child could have managed that squad considering the talent available. He made a balls of the Wexford job and probably set them back 10 years.
He is a club manager at best and i have my doubts he will ever get another Intercounty gig.

Great hurler, so so manager.

They should have taken the hurleys with them on the session, they could not handle it when slashhooks came out.

Best panel no doubt but best team absolutely no way. A more ponderous and boring team for the talent they have available you could not find. Add to that an inability in my opinion to do the business against strong opposition and there is no way they could be considered the best team of recent times.

I expect Declan Carr to be confirmed as the new Tipperary senior hurling manager at some point over the next few weeks.

Another 10 year wait for Liam in store so. :frowning:

Tipp won’t be far away over the next few years. Even if Apocalypse now occurred and Babs came back there is still a core of top quality players there so they’ll be up there challenging.

Ken Hogan seemed to do a good job with the u-21’s this year, unlucky not to win the Munster title.

he was a mighty man for the clipboards alrite. nearly as fond of the clipboard as Jason Ryan was of the hair gel!

Tyrone 09 was a demolition. They beat Dublin in '10 who who the following All Ireland, beaten Kerry a couple if times. Won 3 leagues and an AI. Kerry beat them I’m 09 with one of the most talented 15’s ever put out on All Ireland day.

Now they have not fulfilled their potential i agree, and they have lacked guile and style from time to time but have also been awesome at times. My biggest gripe with recent management is not recognizing our strengths and weaknesses and playing accordingly.

Who would you rank ahead of them?

Donegal, Mayo and Dublin for a start. Probably Kerry too.
