GAA Rule Changes

The kickout one is madness and will mean a serious opportunity for slowing down of the game, while they wait for lads to clear the zones or else a huge amount of infringements.

Ya but they just have to catch it now and they’ll have a free shot basically. No additional skills required

Hasn’t this been in use in ladies Gaelic for a few years?

Sin bin probably better than the black card alright, but with the option to give two yellows it just means more bottling of decisions

Disagree. The onus will still be on the team taking the kick out to get on with it quickly and have their players well drilled.

The penalty is spot on as well as it gives a scoring chance for infringing.

Jaysus weren’t there loads if experts on Ladies Gaelic around here a couple of weeks ago?

Again dunno, I wasn’t one of them anyhow.

They won’t be allowed get on with it quickly as they’ll have to give the opposition a fair chance to retreat outside the 45’s. Allowing the kickout quickly raises an issue of a half back/corner back attacking and being “trapped” on the wrong side of the 45 for a kickout and therefore would actually discourage attacking play. Or keepers deliberately kicking it out quickly to catch the opposition in violation of the rule.

Her it is from the LGFA rule book.

SIN BIN
A “Sin Bin” Rule shall apply in all grades of football from
Under 14 upwards.
Where a player commits a First Yellow Card Offence, she shall
have her name taken and sent off the Field of Play for 10
minutes Playing Time (Sin Bin) in games of 1 Hour Duration
or more. She may remain with her substitute colleagues.
In games of less than 30 minutes a half from Under 14
upwards she shall be sent to the Sin Bin for 5 mins Playing
Time. Where such a game goes into Extra Time that may
exceed 1 hour duration, the Sin Bin time shall be for 5 mins for
ease of implementation purposes.
15
Where games are 15 mins or less per half then the Sin Bin time
will be 3 minutes playing time.
She may resume playing after the 3, 5 or 10 minutes Playing
Time has elapsed and only with the consent of the referee
or designated official.
The duration of the Sin Bin is governed by the duration of Normal
time.

Thanks, even though I never asked you for it.

Every day is an opportunity to learn on the internet

The sinbin could be a good one for cynical fouls, never got a fair trial.

The handpass one negates the kick out one. Short kick outs shouldn’t be discouraged and only allowing 3 handpasses means that it wouldn’t be as much of a borefest

Cody killed it.

They have invented a new game.

Say 30 kickouts in a club game. Each has to wait until players have set themselves into three zones. Could waste 15-20 seconds each time, 7 1/2 to 10 minutes for the game.
That is some bull shit.

And there will no high fielding whatsoever when you have just two targets in an area of 70+ metres x 50 metres. Just rotate your quicker players in and out to make hard runs to take the ball on the bounce.

And finally every u16 team will need someone who can kick the ball 40 yards into the wind. Plenty adult sides struggle with that.

The sin bin one is probably better than the black card as it is now. The rest are absolutely shite

The fixation on the kickout is absurd, just because it has changed over the last few years doesn’t mean it’s the cause of the negative parts of the game.

Another amusing thing about this review is their willingness to take a hatchet to gameplay by introducing various distance based rules (thus potentially destroying the flow of games), without addressing at all if the pitch markings already there are fit for purpose.

More and more rules for refs already inundated with them.

They should concentrate on enforcing the existing ones better.

That said I think the restrictions on hand passing is no bad thing.
