Just figure try it and tweak it once itâs been tried surely the right thing here
Why not itâs only football
Nobody will notice
Keith Duggan in the Paper of Record today scathing of Proposal B which he labels as pure bonkers, absurd in the extreme and the worst collective idea since Chancellor Brutonâs budget imposing VAT on childrenâs shoes in 1982.
It does seem a load of nonsense, having finally read up on it. Yet more of the never ending cycle of structural change for the sake of structural change.
Proposal B is down there as an idea with the digital countdown clock placed just underneath the water beside OâConnell Bridge circa 1998, aka âThe Time In The Slimeâ.
Itâs just nuts. Hadnât read up on any of this until this morning. Scrapping the four provincial championships, just a handful of teams competing for the Sam Maguire and with 3 of the quarter finalists drawn from Division 2, 3 and 4, youâre looking at three turkey shoots in the quarter finals.
Option a lost by 90/10
Top 6 in division one, top team in division 2. Playoff between second in division 2, winner division 3 & 4 for final quarter final spot would make more sense. All a bit contrived.
Something needs to be done , a graded all ireland competition with three divisions, promotion, finals etc, only division 1 compete for sam maguireâŚ
If you had six qualifying, then Division 1 would become even more uncompetitive. It would mean that youâd have the same six teams qualifying most years and a revolving cast of yo-yo teams filling the two relegation places. Thatâs pretty much what has happened in the League over the last decade.
Thatâs 28 matches to eliminate two teams. Some amount of pointless football.
The more I look at it. Brian McAvoy has a point when he says Proposal B is destroying not just one competition, but two. You could even throw in three with the McKenna/OâByrne Cups/FBD Leagues.
the last 20 years (ish) have seen the all ireland shared between the same 6 teams. The best teams will win it, thatâs not really the problem, itâs the need to create competitive games for the lesser lights, the likes of Wexford, we havenât won an all ireland since 1918, a Leinster championship since 1945. The leagues are brilliant for the likes of us, tough competitive games, whatever division you are in and real desire to win/get promoted. Just leave us out of the all ireland series, we are currently not good enough, thatâs ok, just replicate the leagues in the summer and create a meaningful competition. Every county all ready does this a club at level with Senior, intermediate and junior and it works brilliantly. We just need to bite the bulletâŚ
The problem with the championship is across the board competitiveness. This is a different thing from the âneed to create competitive gamesâ.
You can create âcompetitive gamesâ by chucking the eight worst teams in the country into the same league, but that fucks those counties in the long run, and fucks across the board competitiveness.
Thatâs siloing.
If you wanted to bring in a league system, the answer would be the Divisions 1A/1B/2A/2B format because that way every county in Division 2 is only one good season away from being in Division 1, and every county in Division 1 is one bad season away from being in Division 2.
And the overall standard of football would be more even. It would give counties the chance to make something of themselves.
The second tier competition would be highly meaningful because the winner of it would qualify for the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
The Divisions 1-4 format is poison for competitiveness in general.
Pray for the OTB lads
Rejected.
Cannot wait for Kerry and Clare next year.
Woolie Parkinson will not be happy
Lol.
Get the fuck in.
Smoky rooms and backroom deals.
How does retaining the status quo help Leitrim, Longford etc? One of Dublin , Kerry or Tyrone certs for all ireland next year.
Ulster says NO!
They were certs next year regardless of format.
