Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

Itā€™s absolutely insanity. Beautiful weather and pitches all summer and barely a ball pucked in anger.

Instead your left watching Clare v Dublin in the Gaelic grounds on a bad stream on a Saturday.

Itā€™s an unmitigated disaster.

The pitches are in shit already and a pile of games to be played again this weekend.

And the Limerick club finals are played at the exact some weekend as theyā€™ve always played so all weā€™ve done is extend the inter county season by two months and shortened the club season and lads on here think itā€™s some sort of victory for the clubs.

So you want it to go back to a system where the club final is played at exactly the same time, because the pitches are shit at that time?

Iā€™m merely pointing out the lads on here were saying clubs games were being played on better pitches.

They are in their eye.

Pitches canā€™t cope with the volume of games and itā€™ll just cost clubs and county boards more money.

The schedule is so packed now you donā€™t really have room for postponements either.

All because of a ridiculously long inter county season.

The tail wagging the dog.

Which is a shorter intercounty season than the system you want to go back to

Bin the league and the other pre season competition.

A guarantee of four championship games Is still double what you get in the old format.

And I called it in may. Lynch, gillane and byrnes missed a fair chuck of the early part of the season. I think gillane and byrnes both game back around mid march.

Cian lynch was very lightly raced all season.

Three off them absolutely superbly in the all Ireland final and patrickswell doing their best in a while too.

The season is too long and thereā€™s Too many games.

I still think there is a huge scope to increase crowds at club games especially among children and families in urban areaa. The split season gives it such a clear run and this is childrenā€™s only chance to go along and cheer for players at a fairly high standard playing the sport they play and for the actual club they play for. It literally is ā€˜team of usā€™.

Honestly itā€™s ticket pricing coupled with a lack of Marketing thatā€™s preventing it from getting any bigger. Nothing has changed in terms of Marketingā€¦everā€¦

You need both to work together to benefit everyone.

Itā€™s actually impossible to follow the inter county championships nowadays.

There wonā€™t be many stars attracting kids to club games like you suggest in a few years.

Its getting worse though.

County Final attendances in Tipp and Clare were terrible. Iā€™d be surprised if the replay in Tipp breaks 4k.

Will Limerick break 5k?

Ballygunner v Na Piarsaigh last year was a terrible crowd. Compare that to Ulster which always gets big crowds for the big Football games.

The Dublin Football final was very badly attended too compared to even 5 or 6 years ago.

Iā€™d also say that almost all counties are just not good enough in terms of having websites that are simple to access and to navigate.

In reality, a decent central hub for as much as possible would be great, but alas it doesnā€™t exist.

Exactly, there should be one centralised GAA fixtures and results site unlike the amateur setups in many counties.

I think that Niche Sports are doing it for Camogie/LGFA now, but Camogie/LGFA still only have their own county match results on their own sites.

Same with things like Munster Camogie results not being available anywhere easily online and the Camogie Association website only has the All Ireland/League results.

Itā€™s painful to keep up.

You make some good points but youā€™re over egging it a small bit :fried_egg::fried_egg:

Too many late changes for a central site.

What they should consider is a season ticket which covers both club and county. It should work for any club game at all in any code within your county, and cover the IC side as it does currently (maybe split hurling and football, with a discount for both).

Bigger crowd at 2nd tier Cork hurling final than Tipp and Clare finals. That is bad.

They love their hurling down in Cork
