Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

Hurling was in a much better place in the 90s when you look at the results.

It wasnā€™t in much of a place when club and county were out in early June. Empty club fields the norm.

They are absolutely adamant that Hurling needs to be killed off as a pastime in as many places as possible.

This is 100% being pushed by at least 3 of the counties involved

Go on then ā€¦

Well the Leitrim secretary is already on record as saying the agree with it. I assume all 5 are as 2 other counties were at threat and are no longer following conversations and protestations.

Itā€™d save a bit of money which could be ploughed into underage development.
Thatā€™s the problem, running any county team is so dear, or the players go out on Twitter.

A huge amount of money according to some of these counties. If the savings are ringfenced for hurling then maybe itā€™s got some value. But Iā€™m sure it might find itā€™s way elsewhere.

Surely not :thinking::thinking:

The Leitrim secretary is a ball bag.Youd swear the footballers were in Div 1.We might be better suited to stickball.

My initial experiences with Leitrim hurlers it was a one family job. The best hurler, the manager, theyā€™d do the gate and the mother would do the sandwiches.

Manor and Carrick are the only 2 senior teams atm.Ballinamore had one and Gortletteragh had teams but donā€™t anymore.Carrick actually won a Connacht junior club a couple of years ago.

This will kill it off lower down. And as @Plastic_Paddy says itā€™s being driven by their own boards which is ridiculous. Why about Tyrone with only 4(?) Clubs? Will they be relegated down?
Theyā€™ve halved their season. Lads want to play the highest they can and thatā€™s being taken away from them by the GAA. Shameful.

Any word on the British sides?

They were being put down as well but I believe they made their case very strongly that this would be the beginning of the end.

Brexit was the beginning of the end

It would completely kill off hurling in Britain. The London scene would probably survive in some shape but Lancashire and Warwickshire would be screwed.
