At the very least 20 counties donāt care and their crowds in all formats back this up.
Real difference between loi and rugby fans vs bogball in that turning up regularly for games is too muchto ask bogball fans
Imagine they had 25 home games a season
Sorry but thatās nonsense. Crowds donāt turn up when you have crap formats and lack of competitiveness and jeopardy.
Donegal v Derry in the round robin attracted 5k last year.
Dublin v Roscommon attracted circa 10k this year.
By your logic that means none of these counties care about Gaelic football.
Do you have any theories about why the crowds at these games might have been so low?
Were there ever any low crowds under the old system would you say?
When did Dublin ever attract as low as 10k in Croke Park for a championship match?
When did Donegal v Derry ever attract 5k?
There are a myriad of reasons beyond the current format. A new format is the only chance the sport had at county level. The old one was just dying a death. The fact you think there shouldnāt even be a second tier competition says it all. Your view on the sport is reflected purely through a sepia tinted nostalgic lens with mick Dunne commentating on a highlights package of junior McManus galloping across a rock hard pitch in the baking summer sun.
County football is big bidness these days with even the āweakestā teams spending hundreds of thousands a year on themselves.Sure even clubs have gone the same way.And most of this started with the backdoor coming in.I suppose weāll never go back to the old KO but I know the Leitrim players have had 8 league games, one Connacht championship match and 3 TC games with a match against Wicklow on Saturday for a place in the quarterfinals if they win.Players want matches and like it or not that what the new system gives them.
Junior McManusā:rofl:
Pure strawman bullshit. In reality you consider actual crowds at matches to be sepia tinted nonsense. This is spectator sport. Itās not a Jimāll Fix It āah shure donāt the players deserve more games given all the effort they put inā. The success of a competition is measured in attendances. Empty stadiums = failure.
The idea that certain counties get three chances while others get one is a nonsense.
The provinces are the only part of the new championship that are actually holding up somewhat, despite their downgrading. Yet the morons want to get rid of the part of the championship that is somewhat functioning in order to give us more of the part that nobody wants to watch.
Unsurprisingly the public are voting with their feet and staying away in droves. 75 people at a Tramadol Nights Cup match. What a legacy for John Horan.
The price of an All-Ireland final stand ticket has gone from an average of ā¬45 per game in 2019 to an average of ā¬100 per game in 2024.
Thatās a 122% price rise.
Where did you get 45 from? It was 60 euro IIRC correctly for a Hogan Stand ticket for the 2007 All Ireland Hurling final.
There used to be two games on an All-Ireland senior final bill, now there is only one.
If you bought a stand ticket for the All-Ireland senior football final on September 1st, 2019 and paid the face value of ā¬90 for it, you were getting to view the childrenās final and the senior final as part of the price.
Using the well known GAA formula of dividing the price of a ticket by the number of games on the bill, ā¬90 Ć· 2 = ā¬45 per game.
(This is a familiar, long used formula by the GAA - for instance if a stand ticket for an exceedingly attractive Leinster football triple header of Laois v Wexford, Louth v Carlow and Wicklow v Longford costs ā¬45, that works out as ā¬15 per game, which according to client GAA journalists, influencers and company men, is excellent value.)
As it worked out, you got an extra 20 minutes of the childrenās final because that went to extra time, so it was even better value again.
Now it is ā¬100 Ć· 1 = ā¬100 per game.
To work out the price increase percentage you divide the price increase by the old price per game and then multiply by 100.
ā¬55 Ć· ā¬45 = 1.22
1.22 x 100 = a 122% price increase per game.
I see Ciaran Whelan blaming the ulta competitive nature of the Ulster championship for the performances of the Ulster teams in the round robin and he referenced Derry in this
For fuck sake Whelo, Derry played just one match in Ulster, ditto Monaghan and they cant win a match outside Ulster because of the mighty schedule they had in Ulster!!
Iād say Derry are paying massively for taking the league seriously.
could have let the Glen lads have more of a siesta after the club all ireland anyways
I hope the current Gaelic Football format continues.
Best bit of promotion the GGA have done for the game of hurling in years.
Most low key build up to a Munster final ever Iād say.
Thatās mentalā¦and a cost of living crisis in full blaze
Was a stand ticket not 70 quid as far back as 2007?
