when Galway were bate up a stick last year v Dublin, canning was the only man trying. He was then double marked v Clare. They year previous he nearly won and AI the first day. Canning is not a problem in my view. Not sure why they are playing him 15. I would put him 14 in 3man FF line or @11 if you want to play 2 inside.
[QUOTE=“glasagusban, post: 959093, member: 1533”]I really hope you’re wrong KP. I suspect you are. He is the most talented player I’ve ever seen and simply too good to let it slide away like you suggest, he has years ahead of him yet to recapture form.

He’ll still be a top player, I just wonder at the amount of injuries he has has, the mileage he has clocked and the pressure of being “Joe Canning” since he came on the scene around 8 years ago… maybe the period from when he was 16 - 21 will prove to be his best. Who knows.
The dreaded "He was a great minor! accolade
Thank God we never have that issue in Laois.
+1
He is definitely not the main problem. If we had 2 Joe Cannings we might have a few more All Irelands by now.
In all the times he was double marked at 14, no Galway manager has fully managed to devise a tactic to exploit the obvious void that this created elsewhere.
DJ never took a year off.
There were no B1s given out in 1989, just Bs.
Iarla Tannion, they dirty hoor, will be sent off against Kilkenny.
Is Glynn the most overrated hurler in the country?
I feel @glasagusban seriously overrates Galway and somewhat overrates Joe Canning. Do you have a Galway family background, pal? Or an unexplainable hard on for their team of big, slow, useless mullockers?
I would say he attended LIT around the same time as Joe and Sean Collins.

What stupid bastards rate Glynn? The poor fucker can barely move his legs.
Canning is one of the best hurlers I’ve ever seen. He’s absolutely brilliant and it will be a crying shame if Galway don’t help him get his senior AI medal. It’s a shame that Ollie never got one either.
Galway
You just have to wonder do they want it enough. This whole enigma shit is wearing very thin, sympathy has run out for them at this stage. What the fuck will it take for them to get their act together and become a force again?
For some reason Galway were always my second favourite team as a kid Bando, and I continue to have a soft spot for them. I love their propensity to surprise everyone with magnificent performances out of nowhere, usually against kilkenny. I don’t think I overrate Canning, but then there’ll always be differences of opingin regarding the worth of players. Given the choice of Canning at his best or Shefflin at his best, I’d take Canning. This may confirm your belief.
@corner back, you’re right, his retirement only lasted about two months. It seemed to recharge him though. There are plenty other, probably better, examples of players taking a beak for a year and coming back rejuvenated though which is the point I was trying to get across. I don’t think Glynn is overrated, he’s a massive lad that can hurl a bit and will cause problems for most teams, no one is calling him the next Shane Dowling or anything.
@Bad Winner, please, I am far too intelligent for LIT.

Fair enough, old pal. It’s all about healthy debate / calling each other thick cunts etc.
We’ll see how Cahalane fares out against him… if ye get that far of course.
All he has is pace…
He’s scored a goal in an AI final, he’s afraid of nothing, and will disrupt defenses. He no Shane O’Donnell but hey…All gods creatures have a place in the choir.
He’ll suit Cahalane down to the ground.
That’s along way down sport…
Qualifiers aren’t that far away lad.
What time is this on Saturday week? 7pm?
