There was two competitions. You had to win the first one to win the second one
So all teams had to play two games to win the All Ireland competition? Thank you.
God be with the days in the 80s 90s when every GAA team ended up in Gran Canaria in January .
Sigh, do we have to go over this again this year. Yes it was soft. They beat a young and callow Tipperary team who had played 5 matches to win Munster and were still drunk from ending the famine. Even then they needed the assistance of the referee the pivotal moment being the disallowing of a Nicholas English point that would have given Tipperary the lead, Galway got a goal from the resultant free. The referee on that occasion? Ballyskenagh man (Everyone in Ballyskenagh hates Tipp) Gerry Kirwan who also went on to ride Tipperary in the 1988 decider, of course 2009 proved there was never a truer saying as âblack cat, black kittenâ. In the final they beat probably the worst KK team in 40 years on an aul wet day. KK were in the middle of a run that would see no all ireland for 9 years.
1987 = soft All Ireland qed.
Incorrect again, Munster and Leinster teams had to win 4/5 games to win the All Ireland competition. They literally could not win the All Ireland competition without winning 4/5 games
So Galway were the exact same as every one else and were probably disadvantaged as they didnât get a warm up with a provincial tournament before the All Ireland comp kicked off - ergo, their AIs were harder won.
Jesus. I remember Limerick winning that âwarm up provincial tournamentâ a few years ago. I think itâs called the Munster FInal? Anyway, the cunts went mad. About 20,000 of them on the field a hoopin and a hollerin. They must be fair success starved to be getting so excited about a warm up competition.
The All Ireland competition consisted of 2 games did it not? Therefore it is a fact that to win the All Ireland competition you needed to win two games - previous competitions have no impact on this statement.
Yes- Itâs a separate competition and has itâs own merits and bragging rights. Whatâs the issue here?
Yes the All Ireland competition consisted of two games. That doesnât have any relevance to the correct point that Munster and Leinster teams had to win 4/5 games to win the All Ireland competition
If the All Ireland competition consisted of 2 games, which you have just said it did, then you only needed to win 2 games to win it, mate - youâre being very stupid now.
Fairer? What was fair about beaten teams still in the competition?
If the All Ireland competition consisted of 2 games, which you have just said it did, then you only needed to win 2 games to win it, mate - youâre being very stupid now.
It doesnât consist of 2 games, it never did, unless you were from Galway mate.
Munster and Leinster teams had to qualify for the All Ireland series by winning 2/3 games beforehand. Show me a scenario where a Munster or Leinster team won 2 games to win an All Ireland?
Itâs been established that provincial and All Ireland are two separate competitions budâŚ
Now choco behave yourself. You are taking advantage of those poor innocent fools.
You just said the All Ireland competition consisted of two games, did you not? Now youâre talking about qualifying competitions - The All Ireland competition consisted of 2 games - Galway were no different to anyone else in the All Ireland competition.
Actually in 1980 , Limerick only needed to.win one game and we still couldnât manage it. There was a few years there where the winners of the provincial qualified automatically for the AIF. I donât know bit Iâm betting that @GeoffreyBoycott could probably tell me when the ulster champions entered / reenter ed the AI series
Give it a rest you tiresome bore.
@ChocolateMice is running amok here
Galway were no different to anyone else in the All Ireland competition.
Incorrect. Galway didnât have to qualify. The other teams did, by winning their province. Thus, those teams had to win 4/5 games to win the All Ireland while Galway didnât
