General Election 2016

[quote=“Juhniallio, post:895, topic:21776, full:true”].

No I didn’t, that’s ludicrous . I illustrated the level of hardship those cuts of ‘only’ 3 billion imposed. In direct relation to the 37 billion of the Anglo bail out which they willingly signed off on… You are deliberately misrepresenting my position. You seem to be hung up on the post where I mention hookers and coke. This was to emphasise that unlike previous administrations, say haughey and nd bertie, there is no evidence that cowen or lenihan took money personally. I’d almost be happier if they were on the take. They weren’t, they just did it because they believed the lads who had cosied up to them and had great craic with them at the golf and the races for years.

I said his bank bailout decision was made without properconsideration and protected his and the parties’ mates. I stand by that.

No. I think public sector workers had to share some of the burden of course. I do think it’s rubbish to suggest the bailout of banks was insignificant because our deficit was so high at the time. Had we not signed away billions to bank, and Anglo in particular, the cuts need not have been so severe.

No. Again you are deliberately misrepresenting my position. Of course he should have consulted the banks. He should have carried out some due diligence and checked them out. They are happy to put out that they were told it was a liquidity crisis and nothing else. It is my suggestion that he should have consulted independent sources and his own department properly before signing a blank cheque.

I’m going to leave this particular debate now.

You’re flip-flopping on positions but you prefer to label that as me misrepresenting your position. You criticised Lenihan for seeking advice from the banks on the amount of the bailout required. Well of course he would. You’ve realised that now so you’re changing your tune.

The argument that it was personally motivated by Lenihan is childish.

The idea of a Labour supporter calling out other parties for cosy relationships and personal agendas is deeply ironic given Joan Bruton’s recent actions.

You’re ignoring the state of the finances before Lenihan got that job.

You’re conveniently ignoring the billions passed on by the FG/Labour government in direct contradiction of all their pre-election promises. Delusional.

You seem to think that because the bailout was so large that there was no point in asking the public sector workers to work longer hours. Absurd.

You seem to want to debate statements made by Sinn Féin and by @Ambrose_McNulty with me. I have nothing against either institution but they’re nothing to do with any points I made.

Will you resign from the forum if he backtracks on this?

For the love of God don’t ask this question, we lost a great poster once to such a deal, lets not lose another :disappointed:

It’s National League time, posterhoods must be put on the line.

I’m not Ray D’Arcy or IL Bomber so I don’t make wash* statements to prove a point and then back track

What I will say is I reserve the right to change my mind as the factual matrix changes

So what you’re saying is you have no conviction in Kenny being a man of his word?

Thanks for clearing that up.

Hilarious.

A lad who works in a commie state and lives in a high rise Soviet apartment block making condescending jibes about a socialist politician.

Hmmmmmmm, Denis O’Brien owned Newstalk gives Mike Lowry a prime morning slot. The row over this between Kelly and the presenter is then picked up by the Denis O’Brien owned Indo, who’s sister paper the Sunday Indo had already done a hatchet job on Kelly at the weekend. If one was cynical…

O’Donoghue was pretty fawning in the interview and it served merely as a PR puff piece for Lowry.

I think Kelly was well within his rights to be annoyed with it.

That’s hilarious, what a cunt of a man. Kelly is despised within cabinet too I believe. There was a press event in Limerick a few months ago with Noonan, Jan O’S, Kelly and a few more party heads. The rest of them met separately from Kelly before the event to arrange the running order and tactics for the day. Left him on his own until the cameras started rolling.

This is why the man is our COTY.

All those in favour say eye

He had a few days in the Circuit Court in Nenagh about two years ago with a right of way case against his next door neighbour, some old widowed pensioner. I can imagine on count day if Labour have a bad day he’ll have a meltdown on air.

It’ll be interesting to see how things go for Minister Kelly. At this stage you could nearly forget about the last five years and put it down as a referendum on his personality and his recent antics. Tipp folk could well stick the two fingers up to the rest of the country again and endorse the ‘Minister for Tipp’ factor and buy the argument that this is a guy who can get his way, which is good for the county. As against that a feeling of ‘enough is enough’ could take hold and that there’s been one stunt/controversy too many. Some commentators are comparing this to the Lowry scenario but that’s unfair on Lowry, who for all his faults is a more personable and down to earth sort of guy.

Kelly is the only Tipp TD with a realistic chance of the Merc – and is touted as long odds-on to be the next Labour boss, thereby presumably becoming Tánaiste at some point in the next Dáil, maybe even next month. He’s lost a good bit of his hinterland around Portroe though with most of the area North of Nenagh transferred into the new Offaly constituency. SF not that strong in Tipperary but I believe their candidate Seamus Morris is Nenagh based, which won’t help Kelly either.

That’s a sweet little clamping.
