General Election 2016

By the looks of that labour councillorā€™s page he could do with investment in education, he canā€™t even spell Fingalā€¦

No thatā€™s not what Iā€™m saying.

Iā€™m saying those earning ā‚¬100k and more a year should pay, and be proud and be happy to pay, to make it somewhat better and more manageable for those earning minimum wage and a little over to get by and enjoy a better life and perhaps turn the fortunes of their kids around.

Invest in the school area/areas that need it? Thats a bit broad mumbo jumbo bollox isnt it?

What exactly? Surely thereā€™s a plan?

Do you mean something like this?

I presume not because this is a highly effective education scheme running in most of the DEIS secondary schools in the country as we speak. Itā€™s basically high spec libraries in every Deis school with a librarian whose job it is to seek out and provide extra-curricular activities/educational opportunities so that kids who would most likely leave school early stay in the education system longer. Itā€™s all run by Librarians who share information on a central system. Iā€™m not sure what your personal position on librarians is but I can assure you these people(usually ladies) do an amazing job.

Also, weirdly, Portmarnock Community School has been way down the list of Schools in college places over the last few years. It took a jump this year.

You obviously think Ruairi Quinn did nothing but dine out on his ministry during his tenure. I think his junior cert reforms proposals were quite radical. Obviously they were so radical that they met with some opposition from teachers, who went on strike twice last year because of it. So What do you think that was about? Changing nothing? Achieving nothing?

A fucking librarian. You are hoping a fucking librarian sorts out the education of children in disadvantaged areas.

They donā€™t need a fucking librarian they need more teachers, more investment.

You went home and needed help with your homework and got it. Kids in disadvantaged areas of Dublin go home to a Mam/Dad who canā€™t read! They need more help. More teachers.

FG are right wing, they donā€™t give two shits about that poor child and your Labour Party have been their lackeys and have propped them up and want to continue to do so.

Are you left wing? Are labour left wing? How can you say yes with a straight face when you want to be rodgered by Enda/Leo/Alan/Richard for another term.

Youā€™d do a deal with Renua if you thought it would get you powerā€¦

This is hilarious. You havent got a clue pal. A teacher is a cunt who tough kids hate in loads of Deis Schools. This JCSP Programme gives them a semi-structured manner to access education. Itā€™s a roaring success throughout Ireland in every disadvantaged school. You just canā€™t give it credit because of your previous position on librarians(you hate them for some reason???) and because you canā€™t imagine that there is anything of value in the education system, that everything needs to be fixed(you should hook up with glasagusban). Of course we need more teachers/SNAs(like we need more gardai/nurses etc. )but if your idea is to throw a few quid at extra staff then you can fuck off because you are just another politician cunt who wants to throw money at a problem.

Again, Ruairi Quinn introduced changes to the education system. He began the implementation of root and branch change of the junior cert. Away from learning for a test and towards modular and project work. What changes would you envisage to the education system? Kill the librarians?

I forgot about your left wing jibe. Yes Iā€™m left wing. I believe people who have more money should pay more tax.

I believe in a property tax. The most equitable tax around.

-People who donā€™t own their home = No Tax
-People who own a modest home = Modest Tax
-People who own an expensive home = Expensive tax
-People who married into some inbred meath family and built a gaff on their land = Whopper giant tax(itā€™s the meath thing)

With that attitude weā€™d still be singin God Saves and Nelson Mandela would have died in a cell.

Anyone earning ā‚¬100k more tax pays a wee bit more to make services betrer. If those earning it were individually surveyed I would guess theyā€™d say yes.

Problem isnā€™t tax/workers. Itā€™s cronyism. Jobs for the boys, Mercs.

What Joan saying about that?

On being true to the electorate;

On the economy;

Like teachers who said they would be lobbied by parents! Put under pressure by parents on their case about their kids. Again the working class parent is quiet while the Solicitor type like Ruari powers down obnoxiously threatening all sorts. Your a fucking imbecile.

The current regime isnā€™t perfect but itā€™s fair.

Ah yeah! Inner circle, youā€™d be down with your lentil soup and cup cakes trying to get little Finbar ahead of Johnner even though Johnner wiped his eye on the spelling test.

Iā€™ve given up. Seriously! Peter Coyneā€¦Sean and Brendan of the useless Ryan family and now the Finagl councillorā€¦ Would you ever fuck off!

There should be no tax on a family home.

There are plenty of elderly people who have security in their home but are running out of money or no cash.

Thereā€™s also loads of people in negative equity who should pay no tax. Their ā€˜homeā€™ isnā€™t an asset.

Young families shouldnā€™t be burdened by a family home tax, we should be encouraging people to get and find a home which their secure in.

Why 100k EG? Why not no tax cuts for all and increases from 50k?

Why not a property tax too? It would help house transfer like other countries where big houses near existing schools etc would change hands.

Iā€™ll tell you why, because your vision, while laudable, is to be paid for people outside your parties voting base. Itā€™s not surprising but seeing as you criticise FG for doing it you must acknowledge that SF do it too. You admire the policies because it means someone else is paying for change, not you.

For what itā€™s worth, I am happy to pay the existing high level of tax, maybe even a bit more if I was confident that the money was spent well and efficiently.

To take your education example, does ā‚¬100 million build more/better schools, employ more teachers or pay the existing teachers more?

If a family home isnā€™t an asset, you presumably agree that any profit made when itā€™s sold should be taxed (heavily?). That would raise more tax for social services and wouldnā€™t impact the families, old ladies you mentioned.

Where do you stand on farmland as an asset, or small businesses. Are these ā€œwealthā€ to be taxed or are they not ā€œassetsā€ too?

Whatever the merits of a property tax, and it might be fine if done properly and as part of a reform of the tax system, calling it the most equitable tax is just a silly soundbite. Itā€™s clearly not as equitable as income tax. It allows for obvious avoidance by the ultra wealthy who can rent and who can rent from property companies they own themselves.

But itā€™s fine, we have more librarians now for the kids who canā€™t read.

Why do you assume that EG wouldnā€™t be affected by any of these changes? Just because he cares about the deprived doesnā€™t mean heā€™s deprived.

Thatā€™s not left wing. A flat rate of tax proposed by Renua would achieve that. I think Labour gave moved so far to the right they canā€™t remember the ideologies they abandoned. Thatā€™s what happens when you have the likes of Ruairi Quinn calling the shots.

I guessed. 5% of the country earn over 100k, about 1 in 20. If we consider that about 40 people post regularly on TFK, that only gives a couple on north of 100k. I guessed that he wasnā€™t one.
